Yup. It's sitting in my car while I'm at work!

Can't wait to get it home and setup and try skiing! :ski2:

Oh and I also have to get WeSki to play now too! :yahoo:

Will report on it as soon as I try it!

Oooooh I can't wait to hear how you like it, especially the skiing games. We have a Wii and will probably get a WiiFit before too much more time goes by. As soon as we get tired of MarioKart.

Me too!

DH and I happened to meet at Costco for lunch, and there was a near empty palette of WiiFits. He grabbed one of the last 3. Hadn't planned on it, but he saw them going for double on eBay so we figured we'd get it while it was there. Then he found a Wii Ski! Wahooo...! Had planned to do a few things tonight (no kids' games), may have to blow it off to ski. I'm dying to try it.

As promised a preliminary review of the WiiFit :

Spent roughly 15-20 minutes using it last night. Tried the slalom race - one of the "Balance" exercises which was interesting once I got the hang of it... not quite the same as skiing on shaped skis but definitely fun. Oh and the ski-jump is fun too - also in the "Balance" exercises.

As for some of the "balance" and "reflex" tests that it does to determine your "wiifit age" they are kind of subjective. Testing along side someone who is definitely not as balanced or core strong as myself and I consistently rated worse on their tests so you make your own judgement.

Still need to pick up WeSki to try that.

I've been playing Wii Fit for about 10-15 "banked" minutes a day for the past 5 days. It definitely hits some of the same muscles I use during skiing; I've felt similar soreness. It's lower in impact, though, I think. So, if you're in great ski-shape, you probably won't notice.

I did notice that some of the numbness and soreness sensations I've gotten in my feet during skiing (that I was beginning to suspect were the fault of my boots or socks) show up when I'm doing the balance games on Wii Fit. So, now at least I've isolated that the cause of that isn't my boots or socks!

It's worth noting that if you move around during the Wii Fit calibration (when it shows the green shaded dot moving about on the screen and shows the wireframe body in the lower right), your ability to control anything will be shot to hell. Also, if you lean toward one side more than the other during calibration (like you're leaning to put down the Wii remote), it'll be harder to control that side. It'll also throw off your results on things like Yoga.

I wish they'd put text on the screen during that calibration warning people to stand naturally. It took me quite a bit of experimentation to realize that was why sometimes it was so hard to control.

Got to play with my Wii Fit for the first time last night.

So far, it's pretty cool. After the balance test, it gave me a Wii Fit age of 4 years less than my actual age. Gotta like that.
My hubby wasn't so lucky, his Wii Fit age is significantly higher.

The ski slalom takes a bit to get used to-- different pressuring than true skiing, but still fun. The ski jump is a lot of fun, too. I totally kicked DH's butt in ski jumping. :ski2:

Have to pick up We Ski soon...

I tried the Wii Fit tonight, and my brain couldn't translate the screen instructions for my legs/balance to understand (I kept wanting to lean forward/backward instead of left/right), so my Wii Fit age was 10 years older than I am!!!

I did the downhill skiing, which was a little funky until I got into a tuck and flexed the ankles - I picked up a TON of speed. But, it lets you cheat by picking up your heels (anything to just make the sensors perceive a weight shift) and it doesn't seem to comprehend edging. I also did the ski jump. I accidentally jumped during the ski jump and got yelled at by the Wii. The next time, I forgot to stand up and rolled into a snowball. Sheesh. Overall, entertaining. :becky:

wiifit snowboarding

I love my wiifit! I just unlocked the snowboarding game a day or so ago, and it's superhard -- I'm getting better and better at the other activities, though. I've found the yoga very easy.

has anyone tried the running yet? I love seeing the other miis jog by and high five me!

I've slowly been exploring some of the other exercises on my Wii Fit. I like the Super Hula hoop, and the Basic/Advanced step as well as the balance games. The pushup/side plank exercise is HARD! I guess I'll have to back down to doing pushups on my knees. :(

Snowboarding, eh? Haven't unlocked that one yet...!

I finally beat the hubby's high score in the basic slalom skiing-- 27 seconds! But he holds the house record for the ski jump-- 360 meters.

Anyone picked up We Ski yet?

I tried some of the Wii Fit ski games this past weekend at my daughter's house, and learned something very troubling:

I can't ski at all!

To be fair, I only tried two, and I only did them a couple times: the slalom game, and the ski jump game. And they are NOTHING like regular skiing. But they are a lot of fun!

I also tried the hula hoop game. Also a lot of fun, but another one I need to work on.

Definitely wouldn't mind picking up one of these myself.

I'm horrible at the ski games...glad to know I'm in good company. I was feeling bad about myself.

I unlocked the snowboarding game last night. Fun! At least I didn't fall on my butt like I did when I tried boarding for real.

I also unlocked the boxing game, too. That's an easy workout.
I did jogging last night, and it was odd trying to jog in place. I ended up getting closer and closer to the TV...

For those having trouble with ski slalom, it's backwards from regular skiing. In Wii, you pressure the side you want to go to-- right side, right turn. This would end up as a left turn on real snow, so maybe that's the confusion.

I was wondering about that the night after I did the skiing. I couldn't remember how the Wii had skiing configured, but it dawned on me overnight that it was possibly opposite of how one would edge on real skis. But then I thought, surely someone who made the game actually skis, and no one else mentioned it on here as being backwards. I do give the game props for making the racer go faster when you lean forward, though.

I just started this one last night, and I didn't have trouble with the edging (little toe edge works, I guess), but I was just pressuring waaaay too hard. I'm reacting as if I'm really going 24 mph, and setting my edge too hard. Just need a soft touch.

What I enjoy the most, though, is just ignoring the gates and making huge fast wide carves all the way down. WHAT A BLAST! It almost makes me feel like I'm skiing. My scores are no good, of course, but occasionally I make it through a gate.

DH and I were discussing this topic just last night. We figured the skiing was designed this way to be simpler for the average user. Trying to explain ski basics to a non-skier without the feedback of real snow would be a mess.

From what I've seen, the snowboard is a bit more true to life. But then, my stance was the same as the Mii (regular). It might be backwards if you are goofy-foot.
