I hate TAX season!

I'm supposed to be working on my part of the tax crap. I'm amazed at the stuff I can find that MUST be done instead. So far...

the top of the refrigerator is scrubbed
the oven is clean
the shower in our master bathroom is scrubbed
my office space is sorted and kind of clean.

This last in effort to find things I need to gather for the accountant. It's not going well. And I'm stuck with pretending to "do the taxes" until DH decides HE needs a break, at which time we get to go to Costco, and I'll be purchasing PhotoShop Elements 7 -- I'll be teaching a class in a couple of weeks and need to get myself up to speed in a hurry, as well as developing my class plan!

TWO big bags of garbage out of this room this morning! At least, with the piles sorted and redistributed, I can feel comfortable working in here again, but I'd MUCH rather have gone skiing today! I sure hope we don't have to do taxes again tomorrow too!

I've been keeping records in Quickbooks for years. It makes tax season very, very easy. Takes me about 45 minutes to pull it all together, just print out reports and take them to the account along with all mailed things that come in. I'd recommend doing this.

this post would have been better with the option to <strike> a word</strike>

(PS the top of my fridge is not really nasty, nor is the oven! LOL)

Uuuuugh! Me too. I have receipts in my purse, receipts in my desk, receipts in my drawers. I suck at having to keep track of these things. *sigh*

Thanks to new houses - yay for refunds!

My house is dirty for a different reason.... I am usually too tired (lazy) to clean after work on weekdays and too tired (lazy) to clean after skiing on the weekends. AND I am not quite willing to give up a weekend of skiing yet, for cleaning.

Well I got the company side of things done today. Employee T4's ready for distribution tomorrow. Need to write a cheque for a difference in EI that wasn't paid. Then time to do my own. Missing a receipt from Canada Savings Bonds.

Okay, so this is what I hate even MORE about tax season:

Seven inches of fresh, light, fluffy powder over night (forecast was an inch or so) and what are we doing today?????

Well, DH is doing the danged taxes -- so I'll do some of the work that I need to get done sometime in the next ten days, but I'd rather have him drive me up the mountain today as well as tomorrow and Monday!

I suppose it will be okay -- so far, I kinda like the pushed around stuff better than the real stuff anyway. AND, being the first "dump" in a few weeks, it will be PACKED with people!

But DANG!

My taxes are done except for hitting "send". I was fortunate (I guess) to be injured for long enough to get them done without feeling bad about missing ski days. The injury was a sufficient excuse to not clean, too. Now that I seem to be OK, how am I gonna get out of cleaning????:loco:

ps. Yay for refunds!! (Colorado, here we come.....and we can even afford to eat while we're there!! )

I've been done for a copule of weeks, not bad for a self-employed person. That's my reward for entering everything in Quicken for business and home bookkeeping all year! Takes me about 3 hours total to gather up all the info. for the accountant and fill out the tax planner for her. :D

Of couse there is no such thing as a refund in my world. If for some reason I've overpaid my estimated taxes from my business income, I just apply the overpayment toward my April 15th estimate, but I work pretty hard to keep the estimated payments at the right amounts so I'm not lending the government any $. I need to get the taxes done so if I owe $ or my new estimated payments are going to be higher, I can save enough by April 15th and the second estimated payment which comes due 60 days later....

I guess handing it all over to the accountant counts as "done".... yay for us!

Same here. But digging through all the reciepts and calculating out mileage and all of that was enough of a hassle that I'm glad it's DONE!

Tax Season

Wow, you guys are done? I feel funny saying I'm an accountant (but not a tax accountant) and I haven't started. We have a tendency to wait until April. But most stuff is in Quicken so its not too bad.

Nope, not done. Still waiting for some things to arrive in the mail before I get going. Then it all goes to my favorite uncle, who conveniently enough, is a CPA. I'm hoping to get it all out this week or next.

As said before, I have the company stuff done, but not my own. I know I'm missing some T5's etc.

And since we get an extra 2 weeks - April 30th, I can wait!

What, no Turbo-Tax-do-it-yourself-ers anywhere here? :bag:
Ha, DH won't even pay someone to change the oil in his car (although that will necessarily have to change in the near future...). For sure not taxes.
But he lets me buy skis.
I can forgive him.

Ha, well I use H&R Block's free system for Federal and my state's own e-file for state. But, mine are simple with only a student loan interest credit and no itemized deductions. I've already sent mine in and gotten both refunds.

No turbo tax here. We had to have several years worth of returns amended based on mistakes made by that program. Maybe they have improved it now.

The tax code is too freaking complicated, at least once you get past a return that is just a W2.
