I hate FedEx!!!

Beware, rant below:

I'm so angry and frustrated right now!! :mad2: I just found out that the Volkl Tierras I ordered last week were delivered last FRIDAY . The tracking info says it was "left on porch". No package to be found. I've started my claim and now it's playing the waiting game. I should have had them delivered to work, but I commute on the subway, and that would have been awkward, but I guess it was a big, expensive mistake not to do that. I'm just REALLY hoping that maybe they were delivered to the wrong address and no one's home there? Fat chance. The worst part is that it says they were delivered at 8:45am. Thing is, I leave for work at 9. So even if they were delivered here, they didn't so much as ring my doorbell, and it took 15min for them be stolen. Actually, the real worst part is that they're leftover '08s and the best price I'd found anywhere, and that was the last pair  .

Wow, I can't believe that they are allowed to just leave them!! How can they prove that they were delivered anywhere, including the delivery guys house?

Good luck, maybe they will show up!

Wow, that really stinks. Are you sure you weren't supposed to sign for them? If so, you'll definitely have a case. We get some deliveries (computer stuff) for which we're required to sign to validate receipt. If they left them without a required signature, they could be liable.

Hope it works out for you.

Michpc, mega sorries on your situation. Here's another FedEx horror story to keep in mind. Diva Daughter works in an apartment complex and has to sign for residents' packages a lot. During the holidays she signed for zillions of packages, and fortunately she keeps a log of everything she signs for. To make a really long story short, a resident, expecting 2 packages, received 1, and talked to DD about the missing one. According to FedEx, she signed for it. According to DD, she only signed for one. Turns out the FedEx guy forged DD's signature because he forgot to deliver both of the packages. He went back the next day and delivered the package to the resident. The only way they ever figured out what happened was to compare signatures on the FedEx receipts. Last we heard, the FedEx delivery guy still had a job! DD is still fuming!

Suggestion: ask to see copies of the signature (if one was required) and don't let this go. Ask for the name of the delivery person and that person's supervisor. Confirm the delivery address with where the package allegedly was delivered. Write letters. Don't wait for the claims process to grind on. These are skis, and they should have required a signature for successful delivery. My tiny GPS required a signature from UPS; skis are ever so slightly larger than a GPS!

In general, I like FedEx and have not had any problems with them personally. This may be strike 2. Good luck and may the Volkls be with you soon.

I have also been happy with FedEx in the past, and I also think this is partially the ski shop's fault. The person I ordered from asked me of I wanted signature required, and of course I said "yes". However, the tracking log says "No signature required, left on porch". Of course, since I never saw any package, I'm inclined to think it was delivered to the wrong address. I've put in a claim, and will be calling pack tomorrow to see what the driver says. Don't worry, I won't be backing down! I got an awesome price on these skis, and haven't seen anything close available in the same size. The only other skis I've found in the same size are '09s at $830. There's no way that extra money is coming out of my pocket. I'm trying to stay positive and keep my fingers crossed for good news tomorrow, but since it's been nearly a week since the alleged delivery, I'm not holding out too much hope :(

Oh my DEEPEST sympathies! That's awful!

If it's any consolation, I once had a FedEx package that was supposed to be delivered on a Tuesday. On Wednesday I started getting concerned. On Thursday I had the shipper run tracking, which claimed the package had been delivered Tuesday. On Friday, I got a call from a little old lady three streets away with the same house number. She'd gotten my package, on Tuesday, but hadn't bothered to call FedEx, or ME (the phone number was on the label) for days!

Of course, mine was a no-sig-required package, or things might have gone differently. But here's hoping for the best for you!

Interesting timing. Just today, a camera I bought for my hubby was scheduled to be delivered. It was a VERY expensive purchase, so direct signature was required. They assured us that they would bring it after 5 pm when we would be home. Well, the FedEx guy forged my signature and left it on our doorstep at about 2 pm. Luckily our neighbor works from home and was able to pick it up for us. WTF is up with that??? They are opening themselves up to some serious liablility. Hope it all works out for you!!!!

Thanks for giving me some hope climber girl! Let's hope the FedEx guy can figure out exactly where he delivered it when I call back tomorrow! I checked all the front porches on my street (it's not terribly long thankfully) with no luck though. But who knows where it could be. I know I live in the city, but people leave stuff on porches all the time...strollers are out all year round, and I've seen packages sit for days..

Everyone, keep your fingers crossed for me!

I worked in logistics and dealt with carriers like Fed Ex a lot so here is some advice. Get a copy of the Fed Ex shipper from the ski shop - this should have all the details on it that the ski shop specified when they shipped it with Fed Ex. Verify that the ski shop really did not ask for a signature - I would bet that they really did. The log from Fed Ex doesn't tell you what the ski shop really asked for, but the shipper will. If they did require a signature, Fed Ex is liable. Tell Fed Ex that you need a document called 'PROOF OF DELIVERY' or POD. An official proof of delivery document is not signed by the shipping company (Fed Ex) but is signed by the receiving party (you). They obviously won't have it and your claim will begin.

The big bummer is that one way or another, you'll get your money back, but you won't be able to find the same deal on the skis.:mad2:

What size Tierras, michpc?

I *think* I remembered seeing a pair of leftover demo Tierras at our shop in Taos last weekend. (Same place I got a screaming deal on Conquers).

I hope you get your ski situation resolved, but if not, I'll try to set you up with the shop in Taos.

LOL that is a good one.

I ship a lot, and one time a package going back to a customer with custom work was opened at the warehouse, the item removed, and a new label created, and then an empty box shipped to the customer.

Skihub, thanks for the excellent info on how to pursue the claim

Skihub, thanks for the tips. I've called the shop and let them know about it and gave them the claim number. The individual that I ordered from wasn't there at the moment, but they have my number in case they call. I also mentioned that I'd asked for signature required and that I didn't know if it was that someone on their end messed up or if FedEx just ignored it.

I also spoke to the dispatch where my skis went out for delivery from. Apparently it was a temp driver :frusty:. The one other time I've had an item go missing was also thanks to a temp driver. I work on the 30th floor of my building, and it was delivered to a completely different company and on the 35th floor! (that was UPS that time). They're going to contact the driver today and see what, if anything, he can remember. Also, when FedEx asked the "value" of the item, I gave them the full retail value; we'll see how that goes. It's all just so frustrating.

Lori K, thanks for checking up on those Tierras...although the pair I had coming were unused ones from last year .

At this point I just want this week to end so I can go see some great friends over the weekend and forget about this. *sigh*

I can't remember which shipper it was, I think UPS but one of them. They came to our offices saying a package for a neighbor business was delivered to our office and a specific employee (who signs for a lot of packages) signed for it. He knows he didn't sign for any packages for this other company and on the rare occasion we've received a package for a neighbor we get it to them. There was no way we had whatever this was. The shipper and the other company's owner kept showing up quizzing us about it. It was really annoying. I've no idea what finally happened but they at least left us alone after about 5 visits here with the same answer.

I just soke to the Warming Hut in Richardson, TX, which is where I bought the skis from. They've been very helpful, and Edith there was extremely sympathetic. She also mentioned that she had made sure to not only have signature required on the FedEx slip, but had also written it on the package as well. I don't think there's any question of who's in the wrong here, and I hope I can get this resolved ASAP.

That sucks so much, michpc. Here's to hoping it resolves and the actual skis are found, and fast.

That is what I kind of figured would happen. It is still a major hassle, but there isn't much doubt now that Fed Ex is liable. Good luck!

Don't know if this helps or not...... I had an unbelievably horrid FedEx experience last week that turned out OK in the. I had ordered a Skier's Edge and only received half the package. (it was sent in 2 boxes, but tracked together as the same shipment). Anyway, I called fedEx and they said that the 2nd box was on the truck for delivery. "out for delivery" means it should be delivered that day. I checked the online tracking system every day for a WEEK and it said "out for delivery" every day. I called each night and the reps would say it's marked "out for delivery".

Turns out, they held the package for more than a week at the hub station and it was never put on the truck even though somehow they kept scanning it as "out for delivery". I kept calling and insisted on talking to a manager at the local station until someone who actual worked in the station found it. I finally got it, 2 weeks after they said it was being delivered.

My point is that somehow their tracking systems does not reflect the actual status of packages. I will never use FedEx again. I really hope your skis show up.

edited: Oh yeah....one more thing: When the package finally did arrive, I saw the FedEx truck out front. I walked out to greet the driver and found her already getting back in her truck. She never knocked or rang the bell and instead just left the box in the driveway (not even on the steps or porch) and didn't get a signature (which was supposed to be required). Unbelievable!
