I had "the Moment"

WooHoo...it was beautiful. I had a lesson today, got there plenty early to practice, etc. With about 20ish minutes left, the guy i take lessons with was tired, decided to go back on the bunny run and practice. Like a stupid, I'm riding the chair lift with the instructor going WTF. OK, we get to my nemesis. The last time I rode it, I missed my edge, rode the flat of my ski to a beautiful washout near the bottom.

So, I'm ultra focused, gotta work on my hands and upper body (BTW, if God gave us hips, why aren't we allowed to use them. LOL)

I start down...it was a beautiful run. Awesome turns, I finally felt the turn radius of my skis. And they worked beautifully too. No more brute force trying to make my turn as quick as possible. The best part, there was no one on the lower part of the slope, so I was just flying back to the bottom. Wanted to yell over my shoulder "see if you can keep up with me sucker" but I thought it would be in bad form. And probably, cause me to wipe out.:ROTF:

Learned alot of bawdy ski songs also. I was playing chairlift karaoke because my friend is bothered by heights. Well, our ski instructor (who ran the Whitecap school for 13 years) apparently had quite a crew of instructors under him and geez, could he sing some songs.

We've had weather in the high 20s and lots of sun for about 3 days:becky: Just a great day to be out.

OMG how cool! There must have been huge good skiing karma in the world this weekend because I took a lesson Friday and had... The Moment too! I swear the whole rest of the weekend I had a sh*t eating grin on my face going down the mountain.

It's amazing when it clicks. Here's what worked for me. I obviously wasn't using my poles well, so that is what the couch zoomed right in on. She told me to think about an imaginary "bungee cord" attached from my hip to the pole, and when I reach for the turn, have it "lift" my hip up and forward to shift my weight to make the ski turn. We did this over and over, touching my poles down, making turns... then I mentioned a big problem with me is speed and pointing my skis down the fall line, and she was like a kid in a candy store, lol. She said, "I'm so glad you told me that. We're going to do some "hockey stops".

So after I practiced going straight down and cutting over to stop on the flats, we began to connect them. When I combined that with the reaching and putting my hip forward it just felt sooooo right.

Does that make any sense? It's amazing how counter intuitive it is, but going straight down and connecting the turns properly actually checks your speed.
