I-70 from Georgetown-Avon closed!

This morning I-70 from Georgetown to Avon (Vail) was closed for almost 12 hours. However, the section from Silverthorne to Copper ( for locals only) opened just about the time the lifts opened, imagine that!

So, we went to Copper, there was over a foot of powder and no one there!

We had planned to return to Denver today to shop the REI sale but skiing is so much more fun.

Another winter storm and high wind warning tonight but if 70 is open tomorrow, I'm headed back to Denver, the slopes will be crazy!

With the high winds I wouldn't count on it. It's blowing like crazy here in Silverthorne, Wildernest.

The drive back from Copper was a little touchy, blowing snow blocked visibility. Summit County has a snow and blowing snow advisory out (3-7" new snow) but Eagle County (Vail) still has a winter storm warning (5-10" new snow) tonight so the morning drive could be iffy.

Well, we plan on leaving about 6 am and stopping to pick up some friends in Frisco then on to Beavercreek.
BUT......
We will check the weather and drive the lower profile vehicle. It is gusting here in Evergreen about 55 mph. This is my very own wind estimator though so I could be wrong. I sail and use a wind scale that we found , but I forget its name, you take how much the trees are moving and guestimate!
