High Performance Ski Jacket w/slim fit?

Greetings - I would like to get a new ski jacket that is a high performance technical jacket yet great looking, waterproof, has thin insulation for the colder days, lots of pockets, vents and has a slim cut. I don't want a coat that has a lot of bulk. I generally just wear a thermal shirt and occuasionally a fleece vest on colder days. Also shopping in Alaska is limited so I rely predominately with online buying.

I was surfing the Spyder websites and like a few of the styles and jackets - but understand that Spyder runs fairly small and its bets to try on before purchasing. I wear a size 6 - 8 and I have a slim build.
I read a thread earlier on the Kjus Viper. Does this jacket run true to size?

Would appreciate any feedback on brands and styles that really work, functional and yet nice looking...

Its funny you should bring this up since I just posted a pic of me in my jacket in the fur trim thread.
This is a Killtec Melena Jacket. Lots of pockets, with good placement, nice hood, thin but good insulation, waterproof, windproof..............all the features except pitzips.

Another jacket I considered is the DNA tellulah jacket.
DNA has some awesome stuff with great features!

I'm also a fairly slim, and I'm a big fan of Cloudveil. They have a few insulated jackets that aren't bulky, and have all the bells and whistles. I have a Koven jacket (hardshell only, no insulation) that I absolutely love. They generally run true to size. The small fits me with enough room for a base and thick fleece layer without being too constricting. An XS might work for you if you want to go really slim with minimal layers. I think the past years' jackets are nicer looking than this year's, however.

I agree Cloudveil would be worth checking into. I love their RPK (GoreTex shell only, no insulation) and have been in some hellacious storms with it and stayed dry. Their Zero-G is an insulated softshell (Primaloft One) with all the features one could wish for. Cloudveil's products are true to size, but I've heard comments that the fit might be a little slim for some; by the same token I don't consider myself svelte in the least, and I'm happy with their jackets.

I have 2 of these (different colors, of course!!) and hope they last forever - best jacket ever. First one was a sale find, liked it so much I hunted a second online (took months!). DNA is not an easy brand to find. It's actually the new moniker for Descente - Descente North America. Their Mandy model was very similar to Tallulah - I lucked out buying bklyn's here recently. Same good features. Overall, I've never been happier with a jacket's features or performance. Also a no-bulk fit. Didn't pay for all 3 what one Cloudveil retails for. (phew)

Great ideas here. I will check these lines out. I have a Marmot shell that works but would like a warmer jacket with some insulation. Thanks and happy spring skiing. We've had some great weather this past week for spring breaks at Mt. Alyeska.

I nevered like my Spyder suit in damp conditions. I found it wasn't all that "waterproof" at Whistler a few years ago. I felt cold all the time from the dampness on the coast. Now that was some time ago, and maybe they've changed the fabrics.

I have some kind of Spyder jacket. I don't remember the model name, but it is bright green from last year. This years is the same, but different colors I believe. Anyways, on cold days I layer it with a fleece or vest, sometimes both and I am plenty warm. Pitzips, waterproof, slim fit etc. Tons of pockets inside and out; trust me, I carry ALOT of stuff. This often makes the jacket look ummm well shall we say a size too small? : ). I could have gone with either the size 6 or 8, but the sleeve length was perfect on the 6 making the decision easy. As far as sizing goes, I usually wear "small" tops, but some brands like Marmot I need a medium...I'm on the border, usually a 6, but sometimes and 8. I feel like I'm rating myself here:eek: haha.
Just checked the Spyder site..pretty sure I have the "Lightning" the one in Lime/White/Black. There is a hood stowed away in the collar that is removable as well. I'd say the sizing chart on their site is pretty accurate, go by that and you should be set!

I have the Spyder Monarch jacket and it fits perfect in a size 10. In general, I wear a medium (size 6-8). This jacket is not bulky and very durable. It has these panels on the size that stretch which is also cool.

I've got the Spyder Lightning jacket, and I love it. Slim fit, thin but very warm insulation. Great pockets, waterproof, stowaway hood (that also unzips). Highly recommend it.

Edit: I went up a size in the jacket, so I don't know if they run small, or if I got bigger:smile:
