Hey-I just made the tv news!

I was at Sunday River today, it was great. Was taking a break outside at one of the base lodges and noted a guy with camera equipment taking ersatz shots (turned out to be of ski racks, snow, people zipping by, long shots of runs). We talked about cameras - it was a Portland, ME, weather/storm team guy from station WGME-13. He asked to interview me - okay, why not?

So I had my approximately 8 seconds of tv fame today on the 6:00 news. I kind of was :ROTF: about the whole thing - DH isn't home so he missed it, I didn't record it, don't totally care, but on the other hand, I don't think I've ever been on tv news before!!

Bright, sunny day, so I was squinting, but I didn't even think I looked TOO terrible-awful. Fun.

I was similarly interviewed by RSN once at Okemo, but I guess I ended up on the cutting room floor. :( Guess they figured they'd be better off without my ugly mug.

Thought of that on the way home! Now if I had a prominently placed STICKER....which I WILL....it's all about product placement!!

I too thought I'd wound up on the cutting room floor with the 5 p.m. segment, but the 6 p.m. one was more thorough and included more interviews. Only 3 of us were interviewed! DH says he's staying up til 11 to see if it's still on again, but I doubt it will be. So went my 8 seconds of fame!

Good grief, I hope NOT on camera ESPECIALLY when skiing!! I looked a little "washed out" :( but obviously do not go skiing with television cameras in mind. A little cosmetic application would have improved things....OTOH, eye make-up, contact lenses, goggles and skiing do not go well together....

The one hilarious thing is that they took sound bites, so one of my quotes was a voice-over: "It's winter! Come outside and play!" Could have lived w/o the visual - the audio was enough, thanks...

And speaking of cosmetics, you know those women you sometimes see on the slopes that are perfectly made up with mascara, lipstick, the works? I have a hard time taking them seriously. Is this bad/wrong of me?!?

NOOOO - I think it's hilarious, actually. I remember one of those one time skiing down from an on-slope mega-bucks townhouse, stopped to fix her glove at the bottom, and she had to have had a minimum 4 carat princess cut diamond ring on her hand - the glove wouldn't fit comfortably over the huge ring. (Note my extreme lack of interest, having identified AND remembered the actual cut of the diamond, not to mention its approximate size.... ..... I'm only human, ya know) Now, I ask you, why would ANYONE wear a minimum $30,000 diamond while SKIING??????? Guess it matters not re: loss, to the uber-rich???

However, mascara flaking into the contact lenses is an altogether different crisis situation, especially in flat light or bumps!!!

No makeup for me on the slopes. No thanks. Heck I don't wear makeup most of the time... when it do it's often just a bit of mascara. Always make sure to moisturize before I hit the slopes. Especially my face.

Make sure that moisturizer has an SPF of at least 20 or 30! Even on those cloudy days, with a helmet, goggles, and gaiter....

Very cool MaineSkiLady, it's always fun to get your few minutes of "fame". Hope your hip is doing well!

I wear a minimum SPF of 20 daily all year round, and many times 45 if it's a day with a high UV index. The sun is at a lower angle and reflects off the sun, so winter UV damage is no less a treat than in the summer. Goggles/shades when skiing, and always shades and baseball hat included in summer.

When/if I wear "foundation" I use Bare Escentuals, which has SPF in the light powder layer, which gives me a double dose. A SPF moisturizer or tinted moisturizer with SPF is great for those who hate makeup, but could use the hydration and protection. I have olive oil skin and never burn, but I try to keep the sun damage away from my face as much as possible.

Hi retro! Hope all's good w/you & family! Hip's fine, thanks for asking! All better. I too go with heavy, heavy SPF. Irish redhead skin and sun are NOT a good mix ! Happily, there are now many great lightly tinted mositurizers out there with good SPF - Neutrogena seems to trump them all for spf factor. I've tried but my skin doesn't care for Bare Escentuals much-or any mineral powder based anything, for that matter. It's all too easy for anyone this fair to look "washed out," especially when the cameras are on.

I had fun watching it, as much to see how they edited the story, did NOT record it and am glad no one else I know saw it or me!!!
