Help - what size Nordica Santa Ana?

Hi, Divas! I have wanted to test the Nordica Santa Ana 93s for a while, but have not had the chance. This morning, I got an email with a killer deal on these for Presidents' Day and was quite tempted. Then I went out skiing and lo and behold, I broke one of my skis today, Head Total Joys.

The issue is that the size of the Santa Ana 93s that is on sale is 177. My current skis are 168, mostly because that is as long as they make the Total Joys. I kinda feel like the Nordicas in 177 would be a good size, but this is a big jump from what I am currently skiing. I am 5'9"and 175# and will ski pretty much anything and like to go fast.

Opinions on whether the Santa Ana 93s in 177 will be too much? Thanks, ladies!

Based on this description, I think you’d be fine on the 177s. I’m 5’5”, 135lbs +/- and ski the 100s in a 169. I’ve also demoed the Enforcer (men’s Santa Ana) in a 177, and was tolerant of the length. It was obvious that I would have liked the next size down better, but it was not unwieldily or uncontrollable in a 177. So I think at your size, 177 would be the preferred length.

Hey, Im basically your same stats and have skied the Santa Ana in both the 177 and 169. I found the 177 to be a lot of ski in the trees and bumps. The 169 was a MUCH more versatile ski.

As always this is just my opinion!!!

Yeah, that's what I was worried about. Thanks for chiming in! I actually really like my Heads and am debating just getting another pair of those if my current ones can't be fixed. But I have been so tempted from reading about the Nordicas...

Check with Head as they are good about warranty issues. If you can get them replaced great!! The jump from 168 to 177 is HUGE and since you ski in the east I personally don't think the 177 is a good choice. My every day ski is the Nordica Astral 88 in 165. I ski bumps and trees at least 4 days a week with students and if I were on a longer ski my season would be a short season as my body would wrecked! Good luck!

This is why I love the Divas - what you are saying makes sense and I didn't even think about the warranty! I will look into that first and have taken the cheap Santa Anas out of my cart. Now, if anyone is looking for a pair of 177 Santa 93s...https://www.evo.com/outlet/skis/nordica-santa-ana-93-womens-2017

This is the 2017 Santa Ana 93 which does not have the two sheets of Titanal which were added in 2018. After skiing with you, I believe you would be unhappy in the 169 in this version, and would want the 177. You would likely be happier though on the 2018 model with the Titanal - in that, the 169 could be a fine fit.

I am 5’9”/140# and own the 2016 Santa Ana 100 177 (no Titanal) and it is my take West ski, and I also love it on those softer/new snow days in the East. Most of the time I don’t feel the length at all...that said, there have been some tight and steep trees/bumps where a little less length would have been appreciated.

I took my skis in today and they can't be fixed, but are skiable until they start to delaminate. The guy at the shop suggested the Kenja based on my description of how I like to ski. I know a lot of people here like them. I really wish I could demo the Santa Ana 93 and the Kenja to compare how they ski to the Total Joys, but that's not going to happen this year. What to do, what to do...

Too bad we didn't know this at Diva East. My Kenjas have a demo binding . . .

Are you going to Diva West? As long as we have someone who knows what they're doing to reset stuff, you could try them out.

Oh bummer! Unfortunately, no, I can't go to Diva West. I just got back from Telluride (which was amazing!) and that was my last big trip. Just some weekend stuff to WV and day trips locally. I think I can get on the Kenjas at a local hill if I rent them, which I may do.

Now I'm thinking of just getting a new pair of Total Joys since I do love them and I don't really need to go wider than the 84 width - when I have skied deep powder I just rent. I feel like I thinking of changing just for the sake of change.
