Help me choose new skis!

I thought I had my mind set on Dynastar Exclusive Legend in size 158 but now I think that maybe I would prefer K2 One Luv - not sure what size, though. Local ski shop also suggested Rossignol Voodoo 74 but I dunno...am not convinced.

I'm 5-4, weigh 125 lbs., strong intermediate & pushing to get better.

I ski mostly groomed, like quick turns and speed but at times I like to relax and take my time going down the mountain (my current old school Rossignol Slaloms do not allow me to do that, they're FAST). I need a versatile pair of skis that will not disappoint on moguls, powder and icy conditions. Oh, and I want a stable ski at speeds but not too stiff.

Thanks in advance! Demo isn't really an option, so I'm trying to do my research online... *sigh* I'm getting a headache from all the options out there!

sweetnsooty, where do you ski (what part of the country, or abroad)? That might help Divas make recommendations, since everyone has thoughts about what skis perform best on the varying snow conditions.

Hi :-) these days I usually go to Eldora in CO, which is closest to my house and my son is taking lessons there. It's usually groomed, though I hear that it tends to get quite icy. I noticed that toward the end of the day the slopes are "messed up", the snow is kicked up and thick and my old, straight, long skis didn't do too well at the end of the day.

Although I haven't tried out either of these skis, I've heard great things about the ELs on ice from other Divas. It seems like they're a great, light, all around ski that can handle a range of conditions.

I know MaineSkiLady is a big Dynastar fan...I bet she could give you some tips!

I have the ELs and love them. Their versatiliy amazes me every time I go out. I think I've been out on them 5 times now, in very varying conditions on the east coast. They grip really well on ice and are very stable for such a light ski. I love 'em!

Did you know that last year's EL is on sale at SierraSkis for $209? (Edit: nevermind, only in 165).

I haven't skied the K2, but I think the major difference between the two would be the weight. I'm 5'6" and 115 and don't have the weight to muscle around a heavy ski, so the ELs are all thumbs up for me.

Hopefully some divas can give you more info on the k2s! Good luck with your decision. :becky:

Two excellent choices, with the K2 being the heavier, damper ski of these 2. Legends are so absurdly light in weight, hard to believe it can perform. Trust it. I have yet to find a ski condition that it doesn't tackle with grace and precision. Absurdly nice. Slow and measured? Fine. Open it up? Go. Bumps? Powder? What won't these do? I have yet to find it, including boilerplate. Okay, they won't go Mach. Which isn't my style anyway. 40-45? Haven't been clocked (yet).

I just bought the k2 one luv's about 3 months ago. And I think if I had done research before hand I would have chosen a different ski. the k2 one luvs are a heavy ski and Im not sure if its my technique (this is my first year with shaped skies) or the fact they are a little heafty for my weight. Im like you almost reaching 5'5" and around 122 pounds. But they do cruise well, they chop up the groomer and crud like nobody's biz, they perform well at speed - actually almost better with speed. I find moguls easier to tackle with them when they've started going, but when I stop I find them hard to manouver in tight spots because they're so darn heavy!
