Help me choose a new pair of skis please :)

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, but I have to say - it's great to finally find an online resource for women...

I'm looking for a new pair of skis (not that there's anything that wrong with the ones I'm skiing on now, but my husband recently got a new pair, and I'm jealous)... I currently have Nordica SUV 8x in 150, and I just want to see what else is out there.

Sooo I am in the Northeast, and mostly go to NH and VT... I ski blues and blacks confidently, and would really like to try some off-piste and moguls at some point. I'm 5'3", 115 pounds, and pretty athletic... (now I feel like I'm writing a personal ad  ).

Aaanyway... I've been looking at the Volkl Attiva S5, and also at the Rossignol Z9. They both got stellar reviews on this site, but I was wondering if they Z9's will be too stiff for me and if I should go with a women - specific ski because of my smaller size. Any opinions will be greatly appreciated!!!

I'm on the Rossi Z5's because I found the 9's too stiff. Demo, Demo, Demo and keep the ones that make you smile!! I'll be trying some of the Salomon stuff next week. And I might just get to try the 2009 Origin line too. Crossing my fingers that the man is going to bring them!

I can't say enough about demo time.
You should consider something a bit wider in the waist and less of a hypercarver than those you listed if you want to go off piste and hit the moguls.
My favourite ski for versatility right now is the Blizzard Eos.
A close second it the Nordica Olympia Conquer.

I could actually toss a quarter and be happy on either one of these skis.

With the Eos at 88 in the waist
and a tad more aggressive, you'll find it to get you through the powder and bumps, as well as take you on the front side.
The Conquer, at 84 in the waist, has more groomer tendancies for cruising, and will definitely handle speed, and crud profoundly, but will also serve you well if you happen to go off piste or hit the moguls.

Don't sell the midfats short on east coast fun!!!

Thanks, ladies.

I'm definitely going to demo as much as I can. Do you think I can stay within the 150ish length for a while, or should I be looking up at some 160's? I'm paranoid about anything too long cause I'm pretty small, but at the same time, I want to "grow into" my skis...

If you were to look at the Eos, I'd go with a 159 with a TR of 15.5.
123-88-109

In comparison I am 5'6" 120 lbs and ski on the 166 Eos with a TR of 17.

You NEEEED to demo a midfat like this, even if its not this particular ski.
You can see nannymin's review of three midfats here
https://www.theskidiva.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2365
and my review of the Eos here

Its worth a look

Thanks, SnowHot... I'm looking forward to demoing all of those skis tomorrow *looks at the clock* or today, rather, if they have them in the shop.
