Received an email from a guy who wants some help getting skis for his finance. Here's his problem:

Well she's an amateur and she only rode few times and I wanna make her a present for her upcoming birthday and buy her all that she needs. The only thing I wanna buy her as a suprise are the ski's, the rest will b suprise shoping spree so she can pick and get the things that suit her  She's 5'7-5'8 60-65kg, very athletic and likes challenges. So in that in mind I hope u can help me get the right Ski's for her. I want to buy her something that will last a long time, so we won't have to change the basic begginer ski's very fast, maybe something close to intermediate ? or would that b too challenging ? The price doesn't really matter since I wanna buy something that will last a while. Also do bindings mind that much ? since I see most ski's come with binding already installed.?

Any opinions?

Dear Wendy,

Here is a situation where the K2 One Luv might be the best ski. Does he live in the East or the West? I would agree that an Intermediate ski makes more sense. The Volkl AC2 is also a pretty nice ski--with good dimensions for all mountain skiing. This is also a good person for the Elan Fire Magics. It would be a good starter ski for her--and with the soft flex would make turning a snap.

I would go with a 160 in all of those skis. If she wants to use a shorter ski for her first lesson or two, she can always rent since most beginner lesson have an equipment rental built into the price. Kelly
