Hey folks! Like other have said, I'm glad to have found the website! Here's my question for ya'll to ponder and help (yes, I'm from the south - NC to be exact)
Now, I've grown up skiing... in the NC/Va hills that is - so it's something I learned as a child. I've also been out west and skiing in Washington and Colorado and have learned what REAL skiing is like - although it took me a while to learn how to ski on powder as opposed to ice :o)
It varies from year to year - I may go skiing once this year, 5 times next year including out West - and then none the next... depending on shedules and budget and work and family and the such!
What kind of a skier am I? I generally just say I'm a type II skier - advanced... but I would never say I'm an expert. Greens, blues, blacks - I'll do most of them, but I generally stick to the blues - they're the most fun for me to race around and goof off with without killing myself. But I do enjoy a good challenge and a black in there - especially here on the East Coast because they're easier - it's definitely more of a challenge out west. I don't really push the envelope too far - I have fun, but I usually don't fall when I ski... which probably means I'm not pushing myself as hard or taking many risks - but after 2 knee surgeries, I try to stay sain.
This year I traded in my snowboard ( took that up after the second knee surgery - but I'm rehabed out, feeling a lot stronger and good as new - so back to skiing) - and bought skies. The first ones were a bust... they were heads, and just too soft... too 'beginnerish' - I don't know anything about the equipment, so I'm at the mercy of the store. They are a local, family owned and operated store and they've been very nice and worked with us well. I've traded back in my boots because they were uncomfortable and now we're working on the skies. They don't carry K2 - so that's not an option. But they do carry Atomic and Head, Dynaster, Fisher, and some others.
I'm about 5"4 and 140 - so I prefer to ski on 150s or something close. They've got a pair of Atomic Balanze 9.7s they can trade in for me right now. I was researching and hoping to get the ski just below that... but they can't get it anymore. It's a great deal - and I can look into Dynaster and Head skis if necessary... but this is the deal for the moment. But, they're going to order them just for me - so it's not an option to go try them out 'just to see' kinda thing. They're being really helpful... but I wanted to get opinions.
How would this ski rate for me? It all sounds fine... I like to go hard from time to time, and skiing here at home - it's a lot of ice... but I definitely like to stroll and carve part of the time too. WE do take trips out west to the good powder though too - so I need a really good all around ski to last me for years! I don't really understand the technical terms... so I just need a little help - and I want to do my homework this time so that I completely depend on them to suit me up right. The only other ski they had was the beginner Atomic - and I already tried the beginner route... and it was HORRIBLE! I felt like a brick skiing down the mountain having to lift and turn!!
Sorry so long... please help - we're going to be renegotiating everything on Thursday! :o)
