Helmet + Goggles = a bad combo!

Ok dilemma. Yesterday was the first day out with my new helmet, which I love...it's a Bern Hard Hat style. Very cute, very comfy. Fits perfect. I have another helmet too that's more vented for warmer days.

However, my goggles - which I also love - don't go well w/ the helmet AT ALL. It's like my face is being smushed by my goggles & the goggles sit down too low on my face. EW! When I smile, my cheeks get all bunched up - and I do a lot of smiling when I ski dammit!

Come to think of it - I've always had this goggle/helmet/face problem. I know there are "helmet fit" goggles out there, right? Although, they seem to be the same overall size as normal goggles and I don't see how it would help the way they fit onto my face.

So help me out ladies, what's the deal? I check out other people's goggles and faces - and the smush factor isn't there.

:noidea:

I use Smith Anthem goggles because they are made for smaller faces. I don't particularly have a small face but other goggles squish my nose for some reason.

Take your helmet to the store and start trying on goggles. I ended up Oakleys to get a good fit with my Giro helmets, but YMMV. Definitely check into goggles for women or that are designated "smaller profile"

If you take a good look at my avitar, you will see, just what you're talking about. The goggles there are too big. I did manage to get a pair of Oakley A frames that fit the best. So I need a new pic. Like volklgirl says take the helmet and go shopping. If you bought the helmet at a store, try going back there for the goggles. They may know exactly what fits with it. (What I had to do sort-of. I bought the helmet from my friend's store, but ask the pros at the Salomon store which goggle went best with it. Then went back to friends!)

Oakley A-Frames + Giro Helmet.

But it's all about the best combination/fit for your particular head shape/size, you just have to try them on until you find something that fits perfectly. You might be up for either new helmet or new goggles.

I use Giro Fuse helmet and Smith Anthem goggles (I have a small to medium sized face) and they work really well together....

A lot of manufacturers of helmets are "on" to this problem and have teamed up with goggle mfrs to make specific fits. I have 2 Leedoms, and I found some Leedom-specific goggles online via their website. A shop then told me that these were actually made by Scott. As more and more of us go to helmets, hopefully this problem will lessen. In the meantime, the go-to-shop/try-on option is the best. Good luck! Once you get the fit, there's no comparison!

I think 'helmet specific fit' is a bit misleading, all it means is that the goggles are designed to fit snugly inside the front of the helmet, and not leave a gap at the top or sides. This is no guarantee that the whole combo will fit in the space between a particular person's nose and the top of their heads.

I ended up with a Smith helmet and Smith Anthem goggles for exactly the reason you described. The goggles were mushed down low on my face...but they fit perfectly w/the Smith helmet......

I wear a Giro g10 helmut and prescription Panoptx, never wear goggles any more.

I have a giro 10 mx helmet wich goes along well with spy targa goggles. But I must say, it's kind of hard to find a goggle with a perfect fit. The smaller ones are often to small and the larger ones tend to get to big. And there's always something that gets a little bit squished.
