Hi Divas,

Well, in terms of putting together a procedural/surgical plan for resolving my uterine fibroid, I'm 1/2 way through the waiting period between making an appointment with the surgeon and the appointment happening. It's scheduled for Friday 11/2, the same day as I'll be attending the Warren Miller movie. I've been doing a lot of research which is good because it's informative but also not good because none of the options are very pleasant (Lupron, uterine artery embolization, hysterectomy) and I'm getting increasily anxious. I did find out from a client/friend who is a physician that the doc that I'm seeing is first rate and very skilled at resolving these issues with minimally invasive techniques, so I'm very grateful to have this kind of medical expertise available. I'll post again when I know what's happening. I am committed to taking care of my health and having the best ski season I can!

This past Friday, I had several "growths" removed from my face and back by a plastic surgeon (outpatient procedure) and sent to the lab for analysis for skin cancer. Hopefully they will be benign. I will find out the results around the time of my 11/2 surgical appointment. When the surgeon removed the growths, he cauterized (think branding with a dental pick) about 30 spots on my body which was pretty uncomfortable. This weekend I ran a fever and was exhaused as my body was really shocked by the procedure. The cauterization is good prevention for skin cancer though and certainly is a good procedure for cosmetic reasons. Honestly, it's a ton of work to keep healthy and attractive as we get older, isn't it?

I'm focusing on eating very healthy with fresh veggies and fruit and resting as much as possible (I'm usually very "on the go"). My kids are at their dad's house for a few days and it sure is easier to take care of myself when they're not here. My 11 year old daughter is a sweetheart but my 14 year old is very testy and selfish these days, which I guess is age appropriate but sometimes reduces me to tears, especially when I'm not 100%. Since all of the procedures for my fibroid are likely to trigger menopause right away or soon thereafter, I am a little worried about how I will cope with teenage stuff and all the other stresses of work and marriage with mood swings, which really throw my 14 year old and my husband off kilter very easily. Wait, I have an answer: I'll go skiing!!!!

Thanks for listening Divas. I'll report back in a couple of weeks after my next surgical appointment.

Health Update

SNWL,
Thanks for keeping us posted. Sounds like you have a great doctor lined up for the fibroid procedure and that must be reassuring!
Sorry to hear about the growths but sounds like removing them was definitely the thing to do.
You have a very positive outlook and seemed to be set to make the best of the situation and that's not only admirable but it would seem helpful with the healing process in general. Hopefully skiing can be part of the motivation.
Thanks for keeping us updated. This is such a supportive group. I know that we all wish you the best and want to offer any support that we can while you are going through this. Kudos for your approach!

Sounds like you're having quite a time lately. Good to hear positive things about your doctor, though. That must be a real relief.

And as for menopause stuff, not everyone goes through all the mood swings. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones. Even if you do, with all the stuff you have going on, I'm sure your family will understand.

Thanks for keeping us posted. We're rooting for you! :cheer:

Thanks for posting your update. You know we'll give you all the support we can. Good to know your appointment is coming up soon so you can get all those questions answered by the surgeon. These unknowns & possibilities are a real part of the stress. As in most things, hopefully it will be better than what you prepare for.
