Head Fast Thang What Length and Alternatives?

Skisnow

Certified Ski Diva
Hi, I am looking at buying a pair of Head Fast Thang SLs but am not sure what length to buy. I used to race 6 years ago and want to get back into it. I ski a lot of dry slope. I have a pair of Volkl Fuegos in a 160 for snow but don't want to wreck them on the dry slope. I also ski a Rossignol B78 in a 158 which I love (for being lazy) except when I go fast and they chatter.

My old race skis are a Rossignol 9s in a 161 but I was a much stronger skiier back then. I am looking at either 155 or 160 in the Fast Thangs. I have never skiied on anything as short as a 155 and am not sure about it. I am 5'7" size 8.5 (US) shoe (25.0 - 25.5 ski boot) and weigh 140-145lbs. What would be the best size for me?

Also if anyone can give me any information on the skis (Fast Thangs) I'd be really grateful. I was also looking at the Elan Speed Magic and the Fischer Zephyr as my dry slope training skis.

And maybe as a race day pair (snow and dry) Atomic ST12 (defo in 155) how to the Atomics size up to the Heads are they a bit more serious a ski?

Thanks for any info!

SnowHot had a pair of Speed Magic 160cm for sale, might wanna check on those.

Edit: Don't know if the link will work, as they're in the DOD section which requires five posts.

Length isn't the only issue. Flex is the issue. Different skis have a different flex. Those 9S are stiff and it wouldn't matter if it was 150 or 160. They are tuned down race skis. I don't know the difference between Head and Rossi. But I do know Atomic and Rossi. The ST 12 - S, short T, turn will be a great race skis to replace the 9S's. The Elan Speed Magic I got the demo last winter. This ski needs to be on edge constantly, don't relax. Soft flex and a speedster I found. Might not be a ski for dry slope with the edge thing. Great on the real stuff. Haven't tried the Zephr as my demo source dried up on me. Your Bandit isn't mean't for speed - off piste is it forte. Now that I've really confused you hopefully someone will answer about the Heads!
