Have you ever seen yourself ski?

Ever seen a video of yourself skiing? Were you pleased or shocked? Were reality and perception the same? Mr. SD just bought a video camera, and we're thinking about taking it to the slopes sometime. I'm sure it can be handy for picking out trouble spots and determining things I need to work on, but I don't know if I'm ready for the hard, cold truth. :o

Besides racing or teaching, it's the best thing you can do to ramp up your skiing. Most likely you'll be both pleased and shocked :D .

I found out that I really am a good skier after years of underrating myself. I also found that I'm a park-n-rider and don't do a dynamic COM movement at the transition, so those are the items I'm working on now. People can tell you these things day in and day out, but.....once you see it, you get the "Aha!!" going on.

If you have the capability, post the video so we can all see and do some MA. I would, but we have a dinosaur of a computer and can't upload video.(heck, even pictures can be a pain!).

We posted a video of Phil at Jackson Hole. I am not good at anylizing these but Tcarey can see so many things that can be improved. I guess that's why she is so good at what she does.

As a feature of ESA events, they video each person on the first day of the event. That evening they have a meeting showing the video and anylizing each student. Watching yourself is humbling and exciting all at once.
I learned more from that than I'd imagined.

Here are a few clips from Stowe.

I think this has Margaritamarcia, but I could be wrong:

This one is me in the white jacket, then Bob Barnes in orange, and rob in red:

I'd really like to have seen a video of Sunday after working on my boots and my technique.

I've seen myself on video as part of the Women's Alpine Adventure at Okemo and found it very helpful. Cnewbound actually did a voice over of my video and gave me some pointers. Last year at Christmas, I gave Phil a helmet cam, which he used often last year. So, I've seen myself on video from Phil's point of view.

Helmet cam? I want one! What kind, what specs? Only problem is, then I'd have to watch myself on it.....oh well, anything for becoming a better skier.

Quiver Queen - I got him a Samsung like this. My husband really likes it and uses it frequently. :D Perhaps you would like it too?

We train every Thursday and Friday from 4 to 5:30 and video ourselves three or four times a year--it is fascinating to see yourself and to see that you are either making moves that you like--or that you would like to work on. In my case, I have seen myself improve and it has been exciting.

When I filmed my Ladies' Day group, they were all nervous, but enjoyed looking at themselves--however, after the first filming, they were motivated to fix some bad habits--and then I worked them to death. We filmed again in the middle of the eight weeks and finally at the end. it was rewarding to see the differences and everyone enjoyed it.

This year, they have signed up again with me and I see video as a powerful tool. I stood in line at Best Buy at 2:30 AM the day after Thanksgiving--and now own a video camera of my own, so it will be fun to film them often and I see it as a great teaching tool. I film most of my private clients--and it is helpful for both of us to look at the film on the chair lift and discuss the next runj--what we will do and why.

Let's face it---what can be more interesting than seeing yourself.

Ya know, I just remembered my digital camera will record an hour of video, and I just remembered I've got someone who would be happy to record me. Problem solved. Now to get up enough nerve to do it.

Last video I saw of myself was at the level 3 instructors course. The perception and actual were really different. I would like to do it again now. Hubby is all thumbs with anything like camera's, so I need someone else to run it. It's sitting at the Condo all ready to go!!

Yup, that first one is me in the tan pants and black jacket. I am open to analysis if anyone is interested in giving any feedback. I must admit I was alittle surprised to see it on Youtube, but I understand that the posting there is gratis. Oy, for the whole world to see!

I don't care to see myself on film, but the feedback has always been helpful. I am a visual learner. Last year, filming helped me to identify my back seat stance. I could then connect it with the feeling. I had been practicing drills that were supposed to help me into a more forward stance. They didn't make sense until after I saw what I was doing wrong. In other words, for my own learning style, the visual cues trigger the sensation.

Yup, been filmed. First by my husband practicing with new cameras about 6 six years ago. Again the last couple of years at camps. The common thread??? The skiing has improved, but I am STIFF in the upper body. All that 'thinking' about what to do. It's good feedback and keeps one humble.

Well these are really short clips but I will give it a go.Snowhot you seem to have some good balance going on and that is great. Some things to help you in these types of bumps-look more down the hill instead of shopping across the hill for places to turn.Commit youself earlier and the skis will work for you. Also it seems that your pole plant is a bit of an afterthought.Get it all started earlier!! Move your butt down the hill!! T

I didn't even have a pole plant before I went to Stowe. It is becoming far more natural for me now, as it was one of the things I really worked on.
As for your other comment. I would liken it to Weem's as quoted by Marcia "Make the GD Turn!"

I love it TCarey, wish you could have been there!
