Has anyone lost weight and help for equipment.

Has anyone lost a significant amount of weight and what did you do in terms of your equipment? I have lost 56 pounds since last ski season and, of course, I got new boots in the middle of the season last year. Hoping they still fit but thinking I may have to get new liners at least? I know that I need to have my DINs adjusted as well, will do that when I get my skis tuned and waxed. Anything else I should think about?

Thanks!!

Yes to your bindings.
Your boots might be a little loose. I did a similar thing years ago and needed to get new boots, but I think I was due anyways. Check the fit at home first before you head to the fitter. It's more likely going to be your ankles and calves.
Now skis - did you have really stiff skis? You might not be able to bend them now.

Congrats on the weight loss. I know how hard it is to do.

Thanks so much. I'm just so bummed I bought the boots right after I started this. :/ Hoping it's an easy modification if needed. My new skis are relatively flexy so that should be okay. :D

I lost weight, only around 5 kilos so about 11 lbs but its made a difference to my already super skinny lower legs, ankles and feet and I found I had to really crank up my boots this last season which are the Atomic STis so a super narrow low volume boot to begin with. I'll definitely be getting them fit checked before our next Sthn Hemi season next year. I could move the buckles but then by doing that I'll probably increase the amount of overlap in the cuff and affect the flex which is already at the top end of my capabilities !! They're all cleaned, dried and stored away for our upcoming Summer and I'll deal with it next Autumn.

Congratulations on your accomplishment! 56 pounds is quite a bit. What is your height? I would not be surprised if you need new boots. Your preference of skis may change also. And, you can get some fun new clothes!

Uuuugh. New ski boots are probably not in the budget. It was a HUGE hit last year. :/ I am 5'8", now at 164 pounds. Thankfully, my legs have always been the skinniest part of me so hoping I don't need new, just maybe some modifications? *eeeeek* I am just realizing that I need probably everything new. ROFL Oh gosh, I hope my preference in skis doesn't change! :O I just got new ones last year too. ROFL Who knew this could result in such an expense. I did treat myself to a new jacket last year and, of course, it's way too big now. *sigh* Guess I'm gonna going for the baggy look this year. LMAO

Do you have a local consignment shop that takes sport clothes? Or try selling that new jacket on FB Marketplace.
Dayum, I LOVE that new jacket though. LMAO I can just put lots of layers on underneath. :D

In my world ski jackets can't be too big. Generous sizing leaves room for layers. Staying warm is the jacket's purpose.

Can a ski jacket be too small? Yes.
Same here, I think my jacket is a fairly generous medium and boy do I pack on the layers underneath it, its a shell though so I wonder if by their nature they are generously sized to allow for this?

When I lost weight (less than that), I needed new ski boots. I went down a full mondo size and the shape of my foot and arches changed. Once I was in ski boots that fit again, I was kind of horrified by how poorly my old boots fit. I'm really lucky I didn't injure myself.

My shoe size also changed, so highly recommend getting a free foot scan at a running store like fleet feet. (Ignore the US sizing on the scan and pay attention to the EU sizing.)

Women's feet change significantly as we age, so a foot scan is a good idea even without any weight changes when you pass through milestones like pregnancy or menopause.

Congratulations on the weight loss @marge. I lost 20 pounds and none of my bibs fit. I’m super bummed because I received a new kit last spring. It’s huge on me. I have been trying to gain muscle, but that too is hard.

Congratulations @marge on doing something very difficult!
I lost 63 pounds several years ago when I was riding (I'm back to skis again now for other reasons).
While losing weight I hit the consignment stores in Tahoe while there and got some great finds until my weight stabilized.
My shoe size went from a 9 back to an 8, my normal adult size. It was not because my feet were fat, but eating highly inflammatory foods, like sugar, flour and processed foods had created a lot of inflammation and swelling.
Inserts can help, or new boots.

I've been at my now healthy weight for over 18 years now. and am in HUGE gratitude for it. Keeping it off is the biggest challenge. If you find yourself regaining, feel free to reach out to me directly and I'll share info on the free program I do. (no gimmicks, or anything to buy just a lot of great support).

Good luck!
