Eight years ago I had a chondroplasty to remove damaged cartilage from my left patella. At the time I was offered to have either cadaver part as replacement or to have a piece of my own cartilage taken, grown in a lab and then attached to my patella. I opted out of any replacements. Since my surgery, I haven't had much knee pain as long as I keep up my leg strength through exercise. I'm 38 years old now. This might be an option for me in the future.
