Great yard sale finds.

I just started a thread in Ski Gear asking if anyone's ever found any great ski equipment at a yard sale for next to nothing Which made me wonder -- what about other stuff? People seem to do it all the time on Antiques Roadshow; someone'll show up with a vase they paid fifty cents for, only to learn it's worth five thou. (This would NEVER happen to me.) But when my daughter was little I got all sorts of kids stuff at yard sales, like those hard plastic toys that'll last forever, and kids books, too. Anyone else care to share their finds?

Funny, they were always referred to as "garage sales" from whence I came, because everyone had garages. Here in New England, it's "yard sale" because most people don't.

Baby clothes!! Hunting them down while preggers was a weekly walkathon for me. Good thing I stocked up, as the sizable baby never did fit in 3 month size and went through 6 more sizes by the age of 1!

tons of baskets, I use them to decorate my kitchen wall, and they're functional (I call my design "early tag sale")

For GREAT finds, go to a yard sale in a high-rent community, i.e. Vail, CO. I went to a bunch of yard sales there one Saturday morning and bought a very nice, like new, Italian ski sweater for $2.

I was a poor graduate student so I also bought a complete set of dishes for $5.

You wouldn't have believed the ski equipment for sale!!!!!!!!!

I used to go to yard sales alot more than I do now, but I got the radar one day late last summer, got pulled in off a sign on the highway and found something that I had been searching for, for 3 years. We have terrible terrible winds where we live and finding lawn furniture that won't blow away that doesn't cost a fortune is a battle. I alread had a wooden sofa and a table and really needed some chairs. I could never find just the chairs, only the whole set. Anyway I got pulled into this yard sale and found two cast iron chairs for $5.00. They needed a little paint, a couple dollars, and still need the cushions recovered, but it sounds like I can find some fabric at a yard sale also.

not to come across as gross (or that I often do this)...I found a really nice wrought iron table on top of a garbage dumpster, people must have been moving and didn't take it. I scrubbed it, painted it and got a new round glass tabletop; it was great, I used it for my DR table.

LOL you know, I think alot of us would have done the same if we liked the table. Good for you. I searched and searched for a set of chairs to match a custom made table. Like 7 years maybe. I was driving down the street one day, in a brand new car to boot, and saw 6 chairs sitting out next to a dumpster. Glad it was a wagon. I brought them home and painted them, worked great. The funny thing is, is I have had a number of people ask if I got the dining set from "Sundance". Which is hilarious, because the table was made from recycled wood too and DH made it. I think I have under $40.00
cash into it.
