Grand Targhee advice

Thinking about planning a trip up there for about 6-8 people. We live close enough to drive and we're hoping to do it as cheaply as possible. I looked on the website and there's quite a few options for lodging. Has anyone been up there and have any advice? Is it better to stay slopeside or maybe in Driggs? We definitely want some nightlife.

I'm not much into nightlife anyway, but found I was pretty much too tired to care about it after skiing all day. The only part I was excited about was the hot tub -- seemed to be the salvation that made it possible to ski each next day too! Then there was dinner, and off to bed...

We stayed in the Teewinot lodge at the resort -- IMO, worth the extra $$ to be in the same building as the hot-tub (as opposed to the outdoor one). We're going again this year, with a group, and DH signed us up for the cheaper building -- I told him I thought it would be worth the money for the Teewinot again. Apparently, he didn't!

We ate in the bar in the evenings, and brought our own stuff for other meals. This worked well for us. DH hates to stop to eat, and tends to put stuff in his pockets. (he needs a nap if he sits down for a while) I don't mind a break to eat -- a little break is a good thing!

Skiing was great -- I took an off trail lesson and learned LOTS -- changed the way I ski entirely! I also tried a couple of skis while there. fat skis and Lotta Luvs. Didn't much like the fat ones, but the Lotta.... I luv them lots!

Anyway, I don't know about staying in Driggs, though I do know that one of the couples in our group (a busload) drove up themselves and stayed off site somewhere. They said it was a good way to do it. DH won't drive though -- we're about six hours away, and he liked being on the bus with a keg of beer!
