Gotta love Bristol Mtn!

This morning I called Bristol at 8:00 AM to see if my class was still meeting because of the weather. I got this recording: "Bristol Mtn will open at 9:00 AM. Today the skiers will ENJOY icy surface, hardpack and frozen granular slopes."

Bring your ice skates!

We skied at Bristol a few times when we lived in NY. Mostly, we'd go there to demo skis at the demo booth at the peak. Weekends were too crowded to go there on a regular basis.

Your story reminds me of a day in March or April a few years ago. Went to go ski Swain after a day of rain or freezing rain. Funny, there was NOBODY on the hill, on a weekend! The few people there would go out for one or two runs and then come in, and tell us how bad it was. It was pretty much an ice rink. But, we found one slope which wasn't as bad. Then it was practice, practice, practice. Just feeling the edges and trying to be "delicate" on the icy surface. A good learning experience for me, and we still managed to get several good hours of skiing.

Around here in the Poconos stuff got closed yesterday! Both Elk and Blue (my two favs) closed early. You know its bad when they close!! YIKES! Sounds from you other posts like you had a good class regardless of the weather!

I have a season pass at Bristol. In their defense, you do need to realize that we had freezing rain that began on Tuesday night and continued through Wednesday morning and they cannot control the elements.

OK, though, I'm sure the skiers were not going to "ENJOY" icy conditions. Guess they were trying to sound pleasant about the conditions as to not turn away guests.

Sure I understand that..I just got a good chuckle at the recording! I did enjoy the class, and most of all I was not scared going down the slopes, which is unusual for me. I was just a little worried on my way, but it is good that I ski under less than perfect conditions.
