Google is the place to work (pics)

Just received an email regarding Google and its work environment. Not sure if any of you have seen this before, but wow, I could easily adapt to working in such an environment.

There were lots of pics in the email, but thought you'd enjoy this one the most. The caption that went along with this pic read, "On each floor, there are private cabin areas where employees can attend to personal affairs."

How cool!!!

Ps if anyone wants the email I'd be happy to forward it to you.

Heh, cool, I've never seen those.

Funny, I think working at Google would be really fun for a while, but then I think I'd feel like I was stuck in some sort of bizarro dorm. Free food! Do your laundry here! Get your hair cut! Everyone is 20-something! WHY WOULD YOU EVER LEAVE????

I used to work at Meetup.com about 2 years ago, and at the time the CEO put this together:

Might be less funny if you're not into the tech scene, but I think he did a pretty good job with it. You can see me in the front of the "Big Thinkers" picture on the Meetup side. ;)

Ah, it's Google's Zurich office.

I have to admit, this is pretty awesome:

I have an extremely bright nephew, recent software engineer grad, who actually TURNED DOWN A JOB at Google :eek::eek:
Super code-writer (purportedly...) but obviously not the brightest bulb in the fixture otherwise....

I hope you all realize that the reason Google does all this for their employees is because they are expected to work extremely hard. Why do they have laundry on site? Because they work so many hours they don't have time to do it on their own.

It's all a very clever ploy to keep their people on campus so they are less likely to go home. Feed them, give them space to have some personal time, do their laundry, give them slides to play on.....in the end Google gets a huge payback on this stuff because their employees work ridiculously hard and never leave to have an actual life outside of Google.

So, MSL, don't be too hard on your nephew for turning down the job. He may be way smarter than anyone even realizes.

No, said nephew is a painfully shy and quite overweight, single, and the job would have involved a 90+- mile move to another city, which I don't think he's emotionally equipped to deal with at this stage in his life (he hasn't even gotten a local job of any kind, graduated in May). I think getting 100+% involved in a job like this might have been the perfect ticket for him. But....what do I know?
