Good single ski bag?

Anyone have any suggestions for a good, padded, single ski bag? I already have a double bag, but it's really l-o-n-g and I was hoping to find something that's a bit shorter and easier to deal with. I'd really like something with wheels, but a search on the web seems to indicate that only double bags come with wheels (what's with that????). So I guess that's out. Anyway, I'd love any and all input.

If you fly a lot I would recommend you get a SkiTube hard case- it's telescopic so you can adjust it for any length ski and has wheels. It is the only case that the airlines will guarantee your equipment against damage when flying.

I agree about the hard case if you are flying. Last year when we flew back from Park City my skis got really, really beat up in our soft bag.

I read about Glissade bags (made by a sole guy, Jim Glissade, in Minnesota) in Ski Magazine and ordered one for my trip out west next week. He custom makes them to fit your skis (3" longer than the longest ski you'll travel with) and it's padded and looks great. I'll let you know how it works out. No wheels though, so I'll be struggling!

Keep an eye on SteepandCheap, they will run a Dakine single Concourse bag from time to time. I got two doubles there for Terry and me and they are great. I used one to bring to Stowe and actually put three pair in it. Phil turned me on to this one and if I recall he talked Lil into getting them too.

Did you have any damage to your skis from the flight?
I'd seen those on SAC, and they piqued my interest, but all I ever hear about flying with skis is not to use a soft bag. If you didn't have any problems, I wish they'd come back on SAC!

As sleddog says, the only bag they say that the airlines guarantee against damage is the SportTube, which is a hard case. But who knows how much they guarantee anything anymore?

I've always used soft bags and never had a problem. Get one that's padded, and wrap your long underwear or ski clothes around your skis. That helps.

I put all my clothes, shoes, etc. in the ski/board bag, padding the skis. Then I pack my boots, toiletries and everything I need for one day of skiing in the boot bag. I carry the boot bag on the plane when I am on my way to skiing and check it when I am done with trip. I wear my jacket and have nothing extra to carry other than the gear bags. Have never had any damage to skis this way. Rollies help alot.
