Good news....bad news....

Bad news: High pressure settling into Colorado. Temps in Denver will be iin the high 70s to 90 in the next week w/ temps in the mountains easily in the 60s & 70s. No real measurable precip (except a little rain in the mountains) expected in the state.:(

Good news: That means the snow will start melting & I can organize the great adventure to hike into Blue Sky Basin to find my lost ski.:yahoo:

I was up in Boulder last weekend hiking a trail that usually has a pretty good stream running alongside this time of year...it was just a trickle! I bet if I go up again the end of the week, it'll be running pretty strong, though.

I gotta say, as sad as I am about the end of ski season, I'm READY for some warm temps!

Hope you can find your ski, skinurse! I bet that's a beautiful hike to get back there...

My husband lost a spatula one year at Alta - in Feburary.

We had the lift supervisor on the lookout for it through the summer and it popped out of the snow in mid-August!!

But he got it back!

A spatula? Am I missing something here and showing my ignorance? You mean one that you use for cooking?????

Ha! No, a Volant Spatula (the original reverse camber/reverse sidecut production ski). Sorry about that - they've been around for what, 6 years or so now so I figured everyone knew what they were at this point. Though I guess on the east cost they're still not exactly commonplace.

Oh, girl, you're such a gear geek, pardon me for laughing out loud that you didn't know about the famous Volant Spatula!!! :ROTF:
I thought you knew everything!

*psst, I laugh because I love you and you truly seem to know most anything about skis any one asks.

vanhoskier - in french when they tell you to raise your tips ie exiting the chair, its levez vos spatula's. So, it did take me a minute to think about the Volants. Probably because they disappeared around here. (Amer bought them, so know they are part of the Atomic, Salomon group!)

They discontinued the ski once that merger/whatever took place but now there are dozens of other skis on the market similar to the Spatula.

But the Spatula is still the original - and there are TONS of them out every powder day around here.

Well I had never heard of them either and I too was wondering why anyone would need a spatula to ski with :noidea: Thanks for the education!

Wow, never seen those before. They look cool! Being a sad, pathetic East Coaster, I don't get to mix company with lots of powder skis very often.:(

I DO remember some Volants, though.....just not THAT one. If you skied those things here, you'd get some looks!

You're right about one thing: I'm a gear geek. But I don't know everything, that's for sure! :ROTF:Glad I gave you a laugh. I thought and thought and thought....what could a SPATULA be in skiing? (Maybe it was because my mom was a home ec teacher that I have the "cooking spatula" drilled into my head)!

So, since I don't know French (though I want to learn!) does "spatula" refer to "tips", or the general "ski" ?
