Golf Tips for Hitting Longer Driver (men and women)

ChloeAllen

Diva in Training
I'm looking to enhance my short game. I've been playing golf consistently for several years, and while my long game has seen significant improvement, my performance around the green is lacking. I play regularly with both men and women, so any advice that applies to all would be very helpful.

I've practiced various chipping and putting drills but feel like I'm missing some crucial techniques or strategies. Has anyone here managed to significantly improve their short game? What specific tips or adjustments made the difference for you? I'm open to suggestions on grip, stance, swing technique, or even the mental approach.

Thank you in advance for your insights and recommendations!:thumbsup:

What exactly are you trying to improve? What do you feel is lacking in your short game?

For me.. my distance control putting is awful. I have recently seemed to improve my direction as I am having a lot of lip outs and even skipping over the hole sometimes. So my speed seems to be too much.. but when I try to back off I end up leaving it way short (which is what I’ve been trying to improve and seem to have swung too much the other way..). So in either case I end up with a 5-6 foot putt coming after my initial putt which always seems to be 15+ feet because I don’t get very close to the flag when getting on the green.. unless I’m lucky.

While I agree with Susan that it would be nice to know what exactly you're struggling with, since your title suggests increasing your driver distance but the content of your post is asking about short game.

Short game is something most of us are working on. Heck, even the pros are working on it all the time.

Soooo...
My golf goal this spring/summer has been to improve my short game. As a commitment to this I have been keeping track of my chipping and putting.

*I have a tendancy to lift my head to see where my putt is going a little too soon which affects my putter face and creates misses. :(
This is something I'm working on

My take-aways from a lesson and my follow up practice:
Make sure your eyes are over the ball, don't have too much back swing, but don't stall your forward swing.... follow through, don't lift your head, and don't turn your wrists. (these are some of the things that go through my head when I'm putting.)

While reading the green, use the lines on the ball to help line up for any undulations on the green.
Reading slope comes easy to me but speed is my nemesis. Slope and speed have to come together for good putting to happen.
Hopefully this helps.

More on chipping in a bit.
