Getting more women to ski.

I don't know about you, but seems to me that most of the people out on the slopes on any given day are men. A lot women drop out, for a wide range of reasons -- lack of time, kids, a spouse who doesn't ski, etc.

How about we try to get these women back on skis with a "Take an ex-woman skier to the slopes" day? It doesn't have to be any specific day -- just whenever you and your friend can arrange it. And it doesn't have to be a weekday -- night skiing or weekends are fine. But wouldn't it be great if this coming season, each of us re-introduced someone to skiing? Maybe they'd re-discover what it is that attracted them to the sport in the first place. And then there'd be more of us out there.

Think about it.

Something I've done with my school ski club/program.

I get the kids skiing, and invite the mom's (dad's too, but moms are usually more available) to chapparone and ski for free!
Get a woman doing something fun with her kids and you've got her hooked!
Most generally, she will develope relationships with other moms, so when the kids grow up and leave home, she'll have alternate ski buddies.

That is a terrific idea! What a pro-active thing to do!

It'd be great if other ski areas followed your lead.

I do this through the Home and School program at our school(much like PTA)
I take the kids who sign up for ski club skiing at least 4 times a year, and alway try to get mom's to join thier kids.
On one hand it helps me to keep track of all the kids, on the other hand it develops more ski buddies for me:D

Ah, an ulterior motive! I like that!

Seriously, though, it's a great idea. You sound like a terrific asset to the program, both to the kids and the parents.

I hope so.
I get a lot of help from the local ski resort.
They are small but offer lift tickets fo 8.00 and ski rental for 2.00.(the rental gear is their older equipment:( )
BUT..........When you can offer a kid an opportunity to ski for 10.00/day, how could you miss?

I love this idea! I have a friend who always says she's "jealous" when she hears I've been skiing. But she also says she just doesn't have the money to go, because her equipment is old and she'd have to rent. Her birthday is in January -- maybe a great present would be a day lift pass and rental!

That's not just a gift, its a gift of time, and the knowledge that you want to spend time with her. Its all good!
