LOVE this forum....I always went to epicski but didn't know about this place!
I'm thinking of upgrading to a new ski. Here's my stats: I'm 58, took up serious skiing a couple of seasons ago after 30+ years of no skiing, started at a fairly low LOW, fearful level. After a season on old rental Rossi's I bought (a '99 model), in spring '06 I bought all new gear...Nordica boots and the Nordica Olympia Serenity (I had first bought the lowest level Nordica ski for beginners, but sensed it wasn't responsive enough so I switched up to the next one, the Serenity). So the Serenity was described as "Intermediate--a more traditional intermediate carver that is easy, light and forgiving. I think they are about 68 at the waist. NICE skis, I'm not unhappy with them, they really hold well on packed, icier conditions (something I used to fear).
But I'm wondering if I might progress more at this point with something a BIT higher. I ski Squaw Valley mostly (have a pass!), and just had a lesson with a top notch instructor who said I'm at intermediate level right now. I pretty much stick to the easier blue groomers and have no desire to go off piste. I've had a couple of moderate powder day experiences which I LOVED (maybe no more than a few inches of powder, though).
I don't know which current Nordica ski my Serenity is equivalent to, and I've been looking at the various Nordica models, also K2's such as One Luv and True Luv (I think the others may be too advanced for me??).
I'm 5'7", about 145 lbs, and have been skiing 150's, which seem OK to me although people are always trying to talk me into longer ones. I wouldn't go shorter, but maybe 153 or so would be fine. I don't like too much speed, but like a quick turn to control speed on steeper slopes. I'm not an aggressive skier and probably never will be, because I just don't want to get hurt at my age! I'm looking for responsive skis, easy turniing, relaxing, but able to handle different conditions including occasional moderate bumps. Something pretty all-around, I guess.
I'm wondering if any particular ski might help me progress a bit more??? I don't really know if my Serenity's are holding me back or not....
