Oh boy howdy, I got out on these today for a couple hours and I am not sure how I'll go back to anything over 80 under foot! We are still in a mixed bag of conditions here and while I won't venture off piste on them (yet) they handled everything that was thrown my way on the groomers beautifully. Bonus is I got my highest CARV score ever, so yes, ski width makes a difference especially if you are working on learning to edge vs. scrub. (Actually, I did dip off piste in some soft snow for about 15 turns to avoid a crazy busy groomer, and they were so quick and fun!)
I am pretty sure I'm going to get the Blizzard Black Pearl in an 84 and sell my 88s. I was going to sell the 88s anyway, because I'll get a new pair for next year, but now I'm more convinced that my all-mountain daily driver should be narrower. It's just so much easier on my knees and hips, and takes smaller moves to yield bigger results. I have several friends, both male and female, who have gravitated back to narrower skis for everything except the deepest powder. All are either instructors or very advanced skiers, to include my husband. I'm starting to see why a super narrow carver is a really fantastic tool for a lot of conditions.

My carver ski is 68mm under foot. Truth be told, it's too long for me
. It's a great ski but because of that, I'm thinking of selling it. Or not...it's a 2019 model.

The one thing about skis with no to very minimal rocker is nailing the length can be difficult. I will say I think it's worse to go too long on them than too short. My husband laughed that these Phoenix have "tip rocker". He's like, "what, like 2mm?" It's SO minimal. So, I was a bit worried that a 162 might be a bit long.
