Gaper Question(s)

So, I've obviously been a gaper before I ever knew there was such a thing as a gaper. I still don't really understand the whole concept, it seems like high school when if you didn't wear the right brand of jeans, you weren't cool.

Anyway, my question is for my hubby. He does not want to look like a gaper (even though, I think he probably is). He recently put a sticker on his helmet (it's a Grateful Dead sticker) and was worried that this might be gaper-ish (?). I feel like he should do what he wants and not worry about what other people think (plus it will make him easier to spot on the mtn.).

So, for him, will he be a gaper?

And to make me seem like a true gaper, why exactly are ski totes so looked down upon?

I think you're just supposed to be "manly" enough to carry your skis without them. Just one of those things, I guess. Who knows why some of these things get pegged.

As for stickers, I see them on people's helmets from time to time. Personally, I don't consider them gaperish, though I prefer to keep my helmet sticker-free. Most of the people I see with them seem to be teen-aged boys.

How old is your husband, anyway? :D

Not gaper.

Every year I have to fight the urge to plaster Aerosmith stickers all over my skis.

My husband wears a motocross helmet to ski.
Now that's gaper!

Just plastered my helmet with SkiDiva stickers. Does that make me 1) a gaper; 2) a teen-aged boy, or 3) someone who spoke too soon? :D

Nah, I have a snowHeads sticker on mine

Don't get this whole "gaper" thing? What IS a gaper? Surely by definition someone who "does" can't be a gaper?

eng_ch don't you keep thinking "gap year" I know I do. At Tremblant they have group of Brits that come over after Christmas and do Ski le Gap. They are refered as "gappers" by the locals. Nothing like a spoiled bunch of rich Brits without parents and minders. Actually most are good kids and they learn how to ski and some even get their instructors certificates.
