Beat me to it..... there are a few "ugly" ski resorts in France I hate to say.... Large concrete buildings "purpose built"....

@santacruz skier The mixed blessing of the French purpose-built resort. High altitude fun in a modern setting... sometimes lacking in storybook charm but usually compensated with Champagne, Tartiflette, and hundreds of KM of interlinked piste.

True the French resorts are definitely more "snow sure" with their high altitude and interlinked pistes. Stayed in Tignes on one trip (Val d'sere much prettier ) and also skied the Portes du Soleil many times as had friend with house there. The swiss side (Champery) is so much prettier than say (Avoriaz ) but the skiing is fabulous - actually better on the French side!
Didn't mean to criticize the purpose built resorts but personally prefer the quintessential ski resort .. Of course, would not turn down a trip to Alp d'huez, Val Thorens, or others in that area......

Different question: Has anyone here skied Le Face in Val D'Isere? If so, what do you think of it? Is it really steep or it looks steep but doesn't ski steep?

Had to blow that picture up. Looked like a T-bar, rope tow combination. And the chairlift is lifting the opposite way!! And there is a safety bar on that lift...

Because there are t bars, rope tows etc all over Europe. I avoid them if I can.

Ha ! I have no idea, but I do have a question. Are divas posting places they have been ? Or any ski area in the world ?

Actually it's a platter lift, not a T-bar. Sometimes called a Poma. Not too many here in NA. And we don't have too many handle or rope tows left. Most places have gone to "magic carpets" for their beginner areas.
