Fur Trim on Ski Jackets...Do We Like?

Fur anything....fake or not....just kindof creeps me out! But...that's me! :becky:
 
I saw next year's line-up for Obermeyer. Lots of furry trim on hoods and collars. I don't mind the faux fur or raccoon trim (road kill!), but I need technical clothes and fur trim isn't usually on that type of clothing, TG. I would like to see more "female" techincal clothes though. Fur trim doesn't have to be on it to make it more feminine. Its the cut of the design that will sell me, not furry stuff.
 
Okay, I have faux fur trim on my down vest for wearing around town but I don't wear it on the slopes. In fact, I think fur would feel weird and annoy me on the slopes.

That can be a very cool and chic look! I'm just talking about the really furry hoods I'm seeing on ski jackets. What the heck?!!!!?!?!?!? :eek:
 
Now you're making think - SNOW BUNNY - not our snowbunny, but those women who go to ski hills and just look good, don't ski!! White suits, etc!!
 
the other thing, too, is I can't stand non-removable hoods on ski jackets, what's with that? Who wants that flopping around all the time?
 
Well, I'm on the other side of this coin.
My new killtec jacket has fur trim on the hood. When I was trying jackets on I was looking for pocket placement, fit and colour. The fur trim on the hood wasn't even a thought until someone said something about it.
I decided to take the fur trim off, since its detachable, and the jacket was "missing something" So I put it back on.

I'm not against "faux" fur trim on jackets really - it's just all the jackets I've seen with trim on them are more for looks (no pit zips, few pockets, etc.) They aren't good jackets for skiing IMHO. They can look very nice for just wearing though.
 
As far as I recall, this just got big/stylish a couple of seasons ago?? Most detachable and faux? The detachable part is good, because if this look ever gets dated because of the trim, the jacket will be okay w/o it.

I guess I don't much care what's on the hood as long as it's big enough to fit over helmet. Attached is fine, I'd never detach it anyway. Depends on where you ski and how critical wind protection is. At Sugarloaf, hoods can make or break a chairlift ride. Even on a warm day, the prevailing winds always catch that place. Calm is rare. Hoods help.
 
I don't know about fur - I've never had a jacket with a fur hood, but it seems like it would be super warm. I've got to agree that it's a bit odd that the PC thing is to hate fur, but leather is okay, as is eating meat. Endangered animals, mistreatment of animals - I have problems with that. But I guess I just don't see the wearing fur=evil unless you're totally living a vegan lifestyle.

And I'd never buy a jacket that didn't have a hood, and detachable just seems like a hassle. When the wind picks up suddenly I want to be able to put my hood on. If it was even zipped into a stow pocket or something it would be a major hassle. For me, the important thing about hoods is that they fit nicely over my helmet and move enough that I still feel comfortable. Arc'teryx does a great job with that.
 
The thing that gets me about some furs is what they do to make the jackets, scarves, etc. The shearling furs are basically furs from unborn babies of some type of animal out in Russia I think. I watched a whole Dateline story on this once, it freaked me out. They kill the mother & fetus for one tiny piece of fur. I mean...come on, how can you feel good about wearing that on your body?

Anyway, I have a white Burton coat w/ a faux fur hood & it's cute. But I do not wear it on the mountain, just around town. My friend has the same coat & she wears it boarding...and it's always all caked up w/ icicles and stuff, especially on pow days. She doesn't seem to mind, but I think I would.

My friend just had on a new coat and it had fur trim. I thought it was really cute. Don't know that I would wear it out on the hill when I'm doing some serious skiing (would depend on comfort), but for apres ski I think it would be fun.
 
Depends on how cold it is. Real fur is really the best when it comes to extremely cold weather. There's a reason natives wear wolf ruffs.

But for fashion, heck no! Unless it's fake. I have a denim jacket with obviously faux fur on the cuffs, and some guy asked me what kind of fur it was. I told him it was "polyester beast" and that I'd killed it myself, and he completely believed me. The "polyester beast" didn't even throw him, he thinks I'm a mighty hunter now.

I dunno, I was doing some serious garage saleing in Spaulding Bowl when I was wearing my jacket with the fur trim on the hood.

No, your coat looks cute and easy to ski in. My friend had a little more fur action...it was still a really cute (white) coat.

This has got me thinking...maybe I'll have a sasquatch coat made! You know, one big furball skiing down the hill...could probably have pants made to match. Even get a fur-covered helmet. Man...would I be stylin'!:becky:

Hey now... I must say I look pretty darn good in all my fancy-shmancy (yes, my hood is fur-trimmed) ski gear, BUT I've got skills to back it up. I look good and can kick butt too! (I know you weren't talking about me Jilly, but I just had to chime in!)

But seriously though, I'm a little bit country, a little bit rock n' roll... I'm a tomboy on the inside, but a girly-girl on the outside. I surprise a lot of people... I just can't help it; I just believe it's possible to rock out and still look good doing it. You have to get all geared up anyway, so why not buy stuff you know you'll look good in? Now, I always choose function over form when it comes down to it, but when you can get the best of both worlds, I'm S-O-L-D!

My jacket is perfect for skiing. I <3 it. It's got the pit zips, a ga-zillion pockets, all the amenities I crave in a ski jacket. AND it's a beaut! Score!
