Free Halloween Skiing at Sunday River

It's free if you dress in a Halloween costume. For everyone else, it's $25. for the day. The resort will be open for the weekend, then the lifts will temporarily close again. I understand that only the upper mountain will be open.

Driving directions to Sunday River
403 mi – about 7 hours 7 mins

:(

What an awesome thing to do for Halloween, though. Beats costume parties and parades by a mile (in my opinion).

I would so be there skiing in costume (if i could ski at the moment and lived in the area). On second thought, this is a pretty pointless post

I hope someone gets to make use of this! MSL?

Pointless, num? You? Jamais!
Umm, not for me. We missed out on the scattered (and in some places heavy! - Windham?? I heard 27"!) snow, so we're bone dry here. And snowmaking temp windows have been narrow. So there will probably be a rather thin base. They will upload on an old triple which has a mid-loading point, so yes, it's upper mountain only. It's a nice run - in season - a black. But.....word is out on the street at this point, so it will be busy - and it's not altogether my "home" base either.

Will focus on getting the last of the leaves done and wood hauled (sheesh, I'm no fun...) and wait for the 2-3 WROD at the resort I call home. Which hopefully will be soon, as temps have plummeted up there.

But thanks for thinking of me! I did an October ski day 3 years ago at Wildcat, after a regional dump of 4' in that notch. Now THAT was worth the drive!

If I lived closer I would definitely be going - even though I'm not too into Halloween.

I think it's a great idea!

Just out of curiosity, where in the states is Sunday River?

Maine.
And they actually opened - surprise! - today.
Free, for all.
Tomorrow's free if in costume, otherwise 25.

I will be there tomorrow (as I was today), primarily to help paint the coaching staff locker room. I am going to ski just so as to be sure I will have skied in 10 of the 12 months of 2008. It has been quite cold and sputtering snow for the past 2 days, so it feels like ski season. The mountain will be open through Sunday then close again until 11/7.
