Flying - Remember to Remove those Batteries!

The heated socks/hotel fire reminded me of this.

My two ski clubs are great with planning advice and packing lists, but I've noticed that they never remind members to remove those lithium ion battery packs from boots if checking the boots/boot bag. This goes for sock, glove, vest heaters too, assuming they are Li-ion or lithium metal.

I'm flying soon and I couldn't remember if it's no batteries in checked baggage or hand baggage! I guess checked makes more sense. Thanks for the reminder.

I have an acquaintance that writes safety manuals for a major airline. He said there are several baggage compartment fires a week because of batteries. The primary culprit, according to him, is vape pens (cheaper electronics) charging from a larger battery in luggage. I’ve included a link to FAA guidance.
