Fischer Vision 76

So I just have to review these skis! After all the shenanigans MSL and I went through to get them, it's about time I let you all know what they're like.

About me: I began skiing in earnest last year. I am 5'2" 150-155lbs and physically very strong. I have progressed from skiing all green/blue to all blue and some black (even did my first moguls and glade runs 2 weeks ago). I like moving with confidence but found my Rossi Saphir Snows at 150cm were just not enough ski for me anymore (although they were a perfect ski to learn on and I loved them while for that!). I knew I was ready for a stronger, more stable ski in order to progress.

About the Fischer Vision 76:
  • Side cut is 120cm - 76cm - 106cm
  • Skis measure 61.5 inches long (158cm)
  • Radius is 16m / 170cm
  • Bindings are V9 Railflex
  • Total stand height is 31mm
  • Bindings feature light compact heel
  • V9 rail 78

I bought these sight unseen and un-demo'd on overstock.com for about $900 less than regular retail so I would have been crazy not to get 'em. I figured worst case scenario, I turn around and resell the skis and don't lose any money.

I picked them up from MSL on Wednesday and it was love at first sight - these are hot-looking skis! Shiny silver and gold tones, wide shovel and 76mm underfoot! Great texture on the topsheet and sturdy looking bindings.

But, like so many of my earlier loves, would these prove to be all flash and no subtance? Or even worse...would they just overpower me? I knew I'd have to find out sometime so with some trepidation I took them out yesterday at Sunday River Maine (you know, where it RAINED all day Monday meaning ICY slopes!)

I started out at Southridge on a gently sloping, short green run. "Wow," I thought, "these turn nicely. Probably just the well-groomed slope". Next, up to a nice long cruiser - snow had been made the night before and not groomed so chewed up and drifted slop. "Great," I grumbled to myself, "I really wanted to test these out on something well-groomed and EASY!"

Oh, sweet heaven! These babies cruised through that slop like my favourite chef's knife. I barely dropped my ankle and they responded like an explosion. Next stop a real test!

I chose a run that had been icy, scraped up and always a thorn in my side....I started out and cut through the crud like an ice breaker. These puppies actually carve on ice! And do they hold an edge? You bet your sweet Aunt Sally they do!

Remember the line in "Pretty Woman" when Julia Roberts says of the Lotus "This baby corners like it's on rails"? That's the Fischer Vision 76. On these, from the top of my head to the hardpack under me, I was one moving, flowing, connected unit.

I am in love.

If I could, I would marry these skis.

The Vi76 is tough, heavy and made for a woman. DH looked at them and said "Too long, too heavy and too aggressive" I looked at him and said "Keep up"

Bottom line - these are skis made for a woman like me - stubborn, strong and always looking forward.

Double blacks here I come!!!!

LOL. I guess that is why I ski on Fischers and love them too, as that description fits me to a T. I got the 70s on Overstock.com. Don't know if I should have gone for the 76's, but I was afraid they would be a bit too stiff. I'm still happy with the 70s and they do carve like butta. No regrets either from a skiing or financial standpoint. I feel like I "stole" these puppies!

Yep, skigirl (who was a big help recommending them to me) Fischer's ROCK!

Another Vision 70 skier here. Glad you're loving your 76s. An amazing deal on a love-at-first-turn ski, hand delivered by a diva no less!

Ah, I love a Happy Ending  Yeah, they sure were purdy skis, sitting in my house awaiting rightful "claimant!" Great review, AQ -- and add another Fischer fan to the club: DH and I did demos tonight, and the Fischers he demo'd (I've forgotten model right now) were his pick of the evening. The comment: "Yeah, Fischer sure has the edge hold all figured out." That from an expert.
SKI ON!

I'm glad to hear how well the 76s performed- I went out and bought a pair from Overstock.com myself. Just like AQ, I am looking for a ski that will take me over the edge and conquer the double-blacks. I'd never demoed a Fischer ski, but between the amazing deal and the rave reviews I've read here about the Vision line, I decided to go for it. I'll retrieve them from the shop today, and they will have their maiden voyage on Monday. I can't wait!!

Jaydog,

Can't wait to hear your review - what length did you get? I know you will find THEY ROCK. What do you ski on now? I bought the 70s from Overstock, but if I have a few extra $$$, may shell out for the 76s too, since they are at such a deep discount. I was hesitant after being off skis so long that the 76's might be too much ski for me, but I think that was a miscalculation, I feel like I am skiing better than I did when I left the sport from a technical perspective, and I was rated an advanced skier then. I currently haven't been tested on any really gnarly terrain (double diamonds, hairy moguls) and I do not feel like I am out skiing the 70s, but I bet the 76's would give me that something extra if I pushed them through that more difficult terrain. Anyway, we'll see.

No demos in the picture this year for me, although I still would love to try the Nordica Firefox and the Blizzard Emocion (which an instructor at my local hill skis on and loves) which both get great reviews. The thing about the Fischer's are they are at the right price and I already love them and know what I am in for, so that might win out in the long run for a true all mountain advanced ski.

Have a BLAST Monday!

I haven't even skied them and they already have a story: While in the process of retrieving my newly-mounted 76s from the shop, the employee put my boot on the counter. I then stuffed my claim check in the boot along with the binding manual, just to have somewhere to put it. After finishing the credit card transaction, I stuffed the receipt in the boot as well. Finally all was finished and the shop guy handed the skis over. Now keep in mind that there is nothing girly-looking or sounding about these skis. Also, they are 164cm, and I'm 5'5", so they come up to my eyebrows. As I'm about to turn and leave, the shop guy says, "wait, this is yours too," holding up the info tag/release form. He stuffed that in the boot too, carefully arranging the other papers into a nice little bouquet, adding "there, now he won't accidentally stick his foot in there and crush everything." After I gave him the glare o' death, he stammered, "uh, or she? Uh, or are these for you?"

I should add a disclaimer that this shop is very good about not selling women short...

My current, or should I say former, skis are Dynastar Exclusive Legends in 158cm, which are currently up for sale in the Gear Swap section.

I love this! TOO funny! I was on the lift with a guy this morning who looked at my skis and told me that he "doesn't put anyone on girl skis" and "it's good to see you chose a man's ski if you want to be aggressive" :yell: I smiled sweetly and said "actually, these are female specific and they rock" and then we got off the lift and I blew past him down the hill catching a little air on the way :ski2:

yup, they rip!

Okay, I took my brand-spankin' new 76s out for the first time today and absolutely loved them. Thank you AQ for publicizing this deal!

The ski area: Mission Ridge, WA
The skier: 5'5", 130lbs, advanced, very athletic.
The ski: Fischer Vision 76, 164 cm.
Conditions: Perfectly groomed. I was drooling on my first ride up the lift.

If there was one thing I learned from my recent demo efforts, it was that I needed to go up a ski length. So, never having skied anything longer than a 162, I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and ordered the 164. Good choice, if I do say so myself. They never once felt like too much ski. I was carving at speeds I had previously only dreamed of. Very easy turn initiation, very quick edge to edge. They shone at every turn radius, except the longest GS at the highest speeds on cut-up groomers. Which, considering these ain't exactly speed carvers, is entirely forgivable.

Speaking of forgiveness, I couldn't catch an edge on these if I tried.

I found a little bit of powder on the edges of the groomed runs. They seemed to do pretty well, but there really wasn't enough to pass a definitive judgement. I only hit one small mogul field (why bother with moguls when there are such delectable groomers?) and they bombed through it no problem.

I ask three things of my skis: do-it-all versatility, stability in the nasty stuff, and easy maneuverability at a variety of speeds and turning radii. Did I find 'em all in the 76? Yes, I do believe I did!

Thanks for posting the reviews (and about the deal). After reading about these skis, I pulled the trigger on Overstock on Sunday. I figure if I don't like them, I can sell them and get the $210 back. Mine haven't shipped yet, so I'm not tracking them every 5 minutes- yet. Who knows, maybe I'll have them in time for Diva day....

You all are making this ski harder and harder to pass up at the current deal (if it still is available - I think divas will just about clean out what's in stock! ) Bottom line, what's to lose at this incredible price? Doesn't get much better than under $250, complete and shipped. Wow. I am not even able to ski at the moment, and I'm salivating for these. Hmmmm.....

Hey, Atlanticqueen! It wasn't just the Visions, baby! It was an attitude, although you know I love the Fischer Vision and would put every woman on them at least to try.

For everyone else, we skied together in a weekend long clinic at Sunday River and she's a bombshell!

We oozed through bumps, took a little air here and there, and, generally, acted like 6-year-olds. skiwishes!

Addendum: I ski on a Volkl Attiva Fuego, which is almost the identical cut to the Vision. However, I got orange boots, and the Fuego is a wonderful match, and you all know how important balance is!

skiwishes: welcome, welcome! AQ said you were going to join us! We need you here  Big storm pending, bring it ON. (enjoy it for me, I'm on the DL for 2 weeks)

THANKS! - A lot had to do with the fantastic instructor

I had a blast and it was an awesome weekend. Unfortunately, I tweaked my knee on Tuesday and have been on the DL since BUT...I am determined to be mobile for Utah. If that means not skiing this week, then so be it - but I will ski the big stuff in 2 weeks!
