Fischer RX-8

Hello,
I originally started a thread referring to to the Volkl Fuego and my need for some fast skis. I have had a couple of helpful divas PM me and add to that thread recommending the unisex Fischer RX-8 as an option. Here is part of my original thread so you know what I am looking for:

I am an ex-racer who is going to get back into a weekly race league next season. I love to ski on steep groomed trails, fast, quick short turns. Did I mention fast? For now, I would like one ski to cover all my needs. I want to race without being held back by my gear, but also be able to ski with my kids comfortably on the blues.

I haven't been able to demo any women's stiff skis, but I have tried some unisex ones. The gang I ski with thinks I need men's skis because I am quite aggressive and strong. I am not sure and figured you expert ski divas could help... I did like the feel of the Atomic SL12 in a 160 cm but that is definitely a unisex race ski and not an all mountain type.

I am 5'5" about 175#. I workout 3-5 times per week and I am very strong for my height. I will be 40 years old soon.

Please let me know your experiences on the Fischer RX-8 if you have any! Thanks again!:becky:

My ski buddy bought the Fisher RX Fire 8 Ti this season and absolutely loves them. They got rave reviews on realskiers.com. I did note a concern, however, because on day #1, he was skiing in a mogel run with some funky conditions and took a small chunk out of the bottom of the ski, maybe on an exposed rock? Seems to me that this high end ski should be a little more durable than that....

Skihub,
More on my new RX8's (155 - binding mounted forward position) - finally had more than just groomed, flat conditions. Friday was 4-5 inches of dense, but not wet, snow that was getting piled up on top of edgeable firm base. Thought I would see what happened instead of going with my mid fats - was I amazed! These just plowed thru the piles (snow curling up on my thighs on the steeps), with great quick turns on the steeps in the soft bumps and good grip in between when necessary. Saturday was another 6 inches of fluff on top of that - still great! No deflection with the bumps and well able to handle the powder at that depth. Maybe I was going a bit more thru the snow than on top, but felt very confident, inspite of the narrow waist (65!). I was looking for a narrower ski that could make quicker turns with some versatility, but was blown away with the performance in these conditions. My only concern with these skis so far is the edge grip on clear, glacial ice (which is lurking underneath) - I fear that the ski may be a bit too stiff to flex properly for my weight (a little under 120) for proper edging on the really slick stuff - but they were gently used demo skis that seemed to be in great shape - perhaps they are a bit in need of a tune (don't see any problems, though) or I need to be a bit more 'on' - we'll see. Anyway, absolutely no chatter in any condition. The 155's have R11 (dimensions stay the same, so R increases as length increases) and I am having a ball with the shorter turn radius.
