First visit to Denver - suggestions?

Ok thanks! Super helpful. I would totally not have even thought about the altitude thing if you all hadn’t mentioned it.
Also ask for a humidifier for your hotel room/condo....... Really really helps.

So I think Im leaning towards Copper because based on the trail maps it seems that it has the most variety in terms of green runs, and the greens seem to be separate from the other areas. Most of the other resorts seem to have a more limited number of options down a green run. Is this a fair assessment?

Also - any suggestions for places to stay for cheap? (~150 and below?) I’ve been looking online and most options nearby seem to be in the 300/400 range and majority of the hotels seem to be in Breckenridge. Appreciate any insider information you can share!

Copper is a great mountain. Search for hotels in Frisco. Holiday Inn, Alpine Inn, Ramada, Baymont. Silverthorne you will find Hampton Inn, Luxury Inn, La Quinta and Comfort Suites. Good luck and have a good time.

Copper is wonderful. Also Check VRBO/ AirBNB. we found a wonderful 2BR condo at the Lodges at Lake Dillon it was FULLY equipped w/everything, coffee, tea, spices. 20 min to Copper- Grocery store at end of street. We could also walk across the Street and take the free Bus to Keystone- 4 stops away. I think there is free bus to Copper too.. Have Fun!

Ok I’m all set with a hotel in Dillon! But looking at the bus route it looks like I might be better off going to Keystone than copper because it’s along the route. There is also a great deal on lessons that weekend. For those familiar with their offerings, would you suggest the women’s max 4 lessons, adult beginner or adult intermediate? I’m generally comfortable with the greens and blues at Camelback with the exception of one I haven’t tried yet. But I have heard that blues out west are like the blacks here so I am inclined to stick to greens for this first trip. I worry that the max 4 and beginner class might be with neverevers on the bunny hill, while I might get pulled into terrain I’m not comfortable with in the intermediate lessons. Thoughts? Also any idea how well Uber works in that area?

Don't know anything specific about Keystone or Copper terrain in terms of greens and blues, but my friend who was skiing greens and the easy blue at Massanutten did fine with intermediate group lessons at Alta during her first trip out west. She's had group lessons at Mnut to get started, plus one every ski weekend. Went to Alta with her kids during spring break at the end of the 4th season. Mnut terrain is probably pretty similar to Camelback in terms of pitch from what I know.

The women's max 4 is only offered durning holidays/spring break and it's an afternoon lesson up to level 4. Keystone does a verbal split before heading up the mountain to ski and then a visual split is done to make sure you are in the proper group. Sounds like you are a level 4-5 which is between the green and blue zones.

Thanks I have taken a few private lessons so far this season too. So if between 4 and 5 that would be fine for intermediate lessons then? It indicates a level 4-6 range for that.

I’m going to be there the weekend of the 9th and it does show up as an option to book - the Max 4 I mean.
Are you a morning person? I have more energy in the morning so prefer to do lessons in the morning. Being on east coast time means I'm awake by 6am during a ski trip out west. Usually morning lessons allow time for a quick run or two if ready when lifts open. Then can ski and/or practice after lunch as long as energy holds out.

Oooh. That’s a good point. I’m not technically a morning person but I will get up early to avoid crowds and the crazies who seem to come later in the day. I also prefer to be out there while it’s quiet and the snow hasn’t been skied off...

Yep, skiing 9:00-11:30 and then 12:30 to finish is a good idea on weekends pretty much anywhere. Eat early and then ski again when most people are in for lunch.

Can ask an instructor for a morning lesson for suggestions about where to eat lunch at a bigger resort. Might be a small eating place that is less well known by travelers.

River Run you will be at the top with one lift or the gondola. Mountain House requires two lifts to get to the top.

Thank you! I was trying to book river run last night but something is going on with the website! They don’t show the same pricing or options as a couple days ago for the same product. It’s super odd. Hopefully I can book over the phone today
