First time flying with own skis/boots...what do you all use as a boot bag? (Have a hardsided rolling case for skis already to check)

Also have the Kulkea Powder Trekker - too huge, too bulky - now only use for car trips or storage-
My ski boot size is 22.5 so I am no help .

Try looking at travel backpacks. My DH's boots are 29.5 and we found a Timbuk2 travel backpack to fit his boots. It's a tight fit but we were also trying to fit within Lufthansa's carry-on size limit (55cm x 40cm x 23cm (22in x 16in x 9in)). Until we found the backpack we were planning to put 1 boot for each of us in standard (Sportube without wheels) packs.

Thanks, I also ordered a few on Amazon just to see if the boots would fit. I mean mine barely fit. (See above picture)
 
What is the bsl, and how tall is the boot? Looking at the evo bsl chart a 29.5 can go up to about 340. Cuff height will also be a determining factor.
 
RE: Sportube missing pin options

I used packing tape to attach some larger ZipTies at the end of the Sportube so IN CASE the pin is not replaced correctly/lost either TSA Agent or I have a backup closure option. The head of the ZipTie can just be pulled up to remove it from the case.

I also throw a few extra ski brake closure bands inside the tube just in case one snaps. I mean, I think most thicker hair ties would work for that purpose in a pinch, too.

Soon after I started traveling more than once a season with a Sportube, I invested in extra straps and closing pin. I carry the extra pin in a carry-on, usually my boot suitcase at the start of a trip. Since I bought a double Sportube, I had rubber brake straps for two pairs of skis. Getting another pair meant that I used them for waxing skis (before Phantom).

I've learned to take off the pull strap before checking the Sportube. Although it's stayed on the few times I forgot, I lost the first one when I didn't take it off.
 
@marzNC Ah yes, the pull strap!

I have a pocket on the side of my rolling duffel that I reserve exclusively for the Sportube pull strap. Maybe I'll fashion a 2nd "backup" handle out of rope and duct tape and a caribiner to keep in my luggage JUST IN CASE :smile:

I bought the Kulkea Pro boot bag- it's large but Does fit in overhead on SW and other big planes. on the commuter puddle jumpers I 'gate check' it- they put it on last and I wait in the jet way to get it. It fits everything, boots, helmet, pants, googles and more- I put 1 day ski clothes in (socks, undies, long johns, tops and bottoms)

Sporttube I do have spare pin and ski straps I carry separately after the events I've had.

So...do you love having wheels? I think now that I stuffed all my gear in a boot backpack it's too heavy for me. A bad back doesn't help. I may have to make that investment...wish they were not so expensive now..but sure seems worth it. Happy skiing

YES. It's so much easier! @marzNC 's idea. I bought a luggage strap on Amazon ($10) and attached my sport tube rolling boot bag to my rolling duffel in one hand. In the other hand was my rolling ski bag. Perfect and so easy. Oh and on my back was my Coach back pack purse. This is super efficient for going through airports, not a method I would recommend for tooling around train stations in Europe!
