I didn't think it would be this hard. We dropped Matt (our youngest) off at college in VT today. Since our move in May, he's only been with us for 3 or 4 days a week, driving back to MA to work and see his girlfriend.

So it's not like I'm used to having him around all the time anyways. Earlier in the week I was even looking forward to packing him off. But now that it's happened, I am not a happy camper. I can't believe I'm not going to see him until the end of next month. I just shut the door to his room because I can't bear to look in there right now.

:( :( :(

It's such a change, isn't it?

I am in college as well, but fortunately, am lucky enough to live at home AND go to college. From my perspective, I look at it as another milestone I am accomplishing - another goal added to my list - each time I return to college and finish a year.

How many more years does your son have to complete?

I know you'll have something planned for next month when he returns! That's going to be exciting!!!

SD - I can remember being dropped off at University, far away from home. Years later my Dad lamented that it was a change of page and new paragraph in his life. Now on a less serious note - don't let him bring all his laundry!! I remember a guy going home for his first weekend back. He had this really big suitcase. "Ah, Terry, it's only a long weekend! You need a 29" pullman??" He had all the clothes he had brought with him in September. Its now the 2nd weekend in October. He hadn't done any laundry!! Ah 6 weeks?? My mother would have killed me. So.... don't let him bring home the laundry for you to do!

I cried for THREE DAYS when I dropped my daughter off at school. It seemed like the end of the world.

Still, one chapter ends, another begins. I found I had more time for skiing, and there's nothing wrong with that!!!!

Life goes on, your son is off on a new adventure. As tough as it is for you, I know you're happy for him.

I cried sending my daughter to high school. I still get teary when anyone asks me how she is doing. She is doing great, so I'm thrilled, but still...I'm concerned it's the beginning of end. She is such a great kid and I'm so proud of her!

edited to add: She is going to join the ski club the school has!

thanks all. This morning is easier already. I fed his fish, forwarded the Zits comic strip like I always do, and sent him our usual txt msg greeting like I always do. And received his one word reply as usual LOL

He's been doing his own laundry for years, so I doubt that will be a problem. He's got enough to go for weeks without having to do any, including socks and underwear. I was amazed at how much clothing he actually has that he wears. He's not exactly concerned with style or appearances, that's why I found it surprising.

Anyhow, they have a lot of things planned for the students this weekend. I hope he gets involved. He tends to be the quiet guy in a crowd.
