From the Utah Avalanche Center forecast:

But the big news is that we should get a big, wet, closed low pressure system, which looks like it will give us 1-2 feet of snow by the end of the weekend. The action should begin on Friday and last through Sunday. The center of the low pressure should come right over us, which makes the storm tricky because if we remain in the eye of the storm, there isn’t enough wind to push the moist air up the mountains and the mountains end up with the same amount of precipitation as the valleys. Hopefully, the center of the low will wander a bit and give us a much-need shot of snow.

The extended forecast calls for a steady series of storms next week, which will be more of the classic, northwest-flow storms that we know and love.

Yep, and it looks like it's coming to Colorado as well. I'm seeing predictions of 1-2 feet through Saturday here. Which is good but a little inconvenient as Saturday is our first coaching day so it would be nice to have some sun for skier evaluation. Oh well, I'm sure as h*ll not complaining!

Looks like we're getting another dumping too!! Knock on wood, they're calling for 2-3 feet for us out of this storm. The snow from last week's storm was awesome, and this will only mean we can open a buttload more terrain. Oh joy!

Heard on the radio this morning that between now and Sunday our mountains should go from below normal snowpack to above normal snowpack!

Today: Periods of snow. Temperature rising to near 26 by 1pm, then falling to around 19 during the remainder of the day. South wind between 16 and 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 10 to 16 inches possible.

Tonight: Periods of snow. Steady temperature around 19. South southeast wind 11 to 16 mph becoming west. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 9 to 13 inches possible.

Saturday: Periods of snow. Temperature rising to near 21 by 1pm, then falling to around 11 during the remainder of the day. West northwest wind at 11 mph becoming south southeast. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Saturday Night: Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 5. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Sunday is gonna be off the %$#%$# hook!!!

Aaagggh!! I've got the NWS radar and snowstake totals open in one window, the Utah Avalanche Center in another, and Ski Diva in this one. I'm gmail chatting with my husband about the weather. I'm DYING!! I know most of my friends are up at Alta right now and it's making my skin crawl!!!!!

Winter is by far the most unproductive time of year for me.

Winter is by far the most unproductive time of year for me.

I just found out that I can use the Vail house this weekend (my aunt and uncle's vacation home) and it's all I can do not to take the afternoon off and go.

I'm back at work already if that makes you feel any better.

It was nice this morning but not epic or anything. I went up at opening, was in the second row at Collins, and skied 5 top to bottom runs and then went to work. I'm thinking about driving back up in another 2 hours for an afternoon session...

There was only about 4 inches down at the base. We were standing in line going uh, where's the 8"??? But there was probably 8" at the top. The thing is, there isn't enough coverage yet to safely ski much. The only off piste that isn't littered with rocks and stumps is Ballroom and that's closed for avy danger from above. So the first two runs were sweet untracked on the sides of the one groomer that's open over there (Main street is closed too). And then it was just nice soft bumpy groomer runs.

Mind you, there are plenty of people skiing all over the place, but like last Sunday we hiked up the shoulder to sign line - and the first 5 turns or so we all hit rocks every single turn. Craig and Rob both wrecked hitting rocks, I just scraped up my skis. So no matter how good some of that stuff is looking - a 20-something inch base just doesn't cut it.
