Experience with Akova Gear?

Jerez

Ski Diva Extraordinaire
I have been looking for new ski clothing that fits my must haves and wants with not much success. I think I found everything I want in Akova gear. But the price...oy!

Anyone have it? Tried it? Any insights if it is worth such a premium?

I know I've seen @BlueSkies in a gorgeous orange jacket, and @MissySki was at least contemplating a pink one last year after trying it on at the ski show. Maybe they can weigh in. I don't have anything from them, but I was fondling a jacket at the ski show. The fabric is nice. I also remember the jacket having interesting zip vents on the shoulder to help "chimney" heat out when the pit zips are open.

They are going to be at the Snowbound ski expo again this year. If you don't pull the trigger before mid Nov. I can stop by their booth and see if they have a discount code like they usually do.

Thats a very sweet offer, thank you!

I am still on the fence. Maybe with a discount code. A new outfit costs as much as new top brand skis these days!

I have been perusing the sales, but they are all either no stretch, size XXXL or XXS, or white or brown or dark green. I mean who wants to be in camouflage when skiing? I want people to be able to see me to lessen the chance if being run over or to be found if I fall in the trees.

I expect they're quality - I always check which resorts a brand makes the staff gear for, haha. They make the Snowbird team gear, for example. Their big thing is water resistant but stretchy outerwear. IMHO there is no way to create stretch fabric that will be as durably water resistant as, for example a 3L Goretex rigid construction. Their fabric supplier, Toray, is also used by premium brands like Descente, KJUS, Kuiu etc. so that's one source of the cost. I'd say their direct to consumer model actually makes them less expensive compared to the majority of the other co's using Toray fabrics. Seems legit. I'd be more inclined toward their 3L fabrics than the 2.75L but I ski in the wet & frigid northeast.

Thank you! Great information. Yes, I ski in the high desert primarily, so I don't have to worry too much about rain. I have a Helly Hansen shell that is bombproof for spring skiing when it is more likely to be wet.

I have an older (before the name change to AKOVA) shell that I've used for several years. I like the fabric since it's not as stiff as many others and it is reasonably waterproof. I ski in the northeast, but I’m old and tend to not ski in really bad weather due to vision issues.
