ESA skills retained

Lola, Margaritamarcia, Batgirl, its a few weeks after ESA Stowe.
Have you skied?

What kind of conditions have you skied?

Were you able to retain and activate the new tools you learned at ESA?

SnowHot answers:

I have skied a few times since ESA Stowe, in spring like, mushy conditions, with limited terrain available to ski.

I got it! I have been amazed and excited to find that this stuff is becoming second nature to me, and I'm feeling less fatigued because of the ankle roll, the edge hold, the awareness of the brief(nearly nonexistent) pause in between carves, the defense move when I have those out of control moments. AND I have a pole plant! Wow! after 22 years of skiing, I finally have a pole plant!

I've had three days on skis since ESA, and yes - I retained much of my learning. I thinking that I am trying to link my turns more, which is what my instructor (Weems) was working on with me. In addition, I have encountered some bumps and have tried to gain a little more speed through the bumps as Weems suggested. He said that I cut my turns too short in the bumps, and he is right, so I am working on that.

But I also have to say that my past ski instructors live in my head when I ski. Cnewbound reminds me to loosen up my arms, relax my upper body, and ski with my ankles. TCarey reminds me to ski with my ankles as well and carve my turns by skiing on the sides of my feet (big toe, little toe). TCarey also reminds me to 'dive over the handle bars' and I start my next turn.

I think that I retain much mentally from my previous ski instructors. Unfortunately, I do not get to ski as much as I would like, so I think what I need is more practice. So I really try to practice each time that I ski.

Retaining

I, alas, have not been on skis since ESA. Perhaps this Friday. I am doing alot of visulalizing however, on sking to where I want to be, turning onto the ankle/edge, launching myself more forward and l;etting the turn extend i the bumps. Whenever I hike with the dog in the woods, I "ski" my way down the hills and practice. We will be at ESA Aspen and I am hoping to get on the snow before then, but it may not happen. We did, however, fionally get somne snow on Saturday and it has been cold. It poured all day today in Boston, so I don't know if what they got/made got washed away or evaporated ot not. Will keep you posted.

Wow, just saw this. Sorry for the delay. YES!!!! I definitely have retained my ESA training, 2-4-2 edging, tipping and body stacking and angulation. Just was at an icey Sunday River this past weekend. Managed good recoveries several times and avoided some old pitfalls more times than I care to think about. Good stuff. ALso skiied some skritchy stuff out at Whistler over Feb. break. The steeps were far less daunting and the turns more committable because of ESA.

Margarita Marcia this was from last year but a great bump.

Wow, I've retained so much this year with my ESA experience, and have expanded on it in a huge way.

The powder skiing instruction really came in handy on my trip to colorado, and my bump skills have definitely improved.
Thanks in a huge part to Robin Barnes, and Dan Egan!!
What a great team!!!
