Interesting that the website for Vail "resorts" doesn't include the three places owned by Vail in the midwest. Also Stowe seems to cover all of New England and NY, instead of only highlighting VT as the state where Stowe is located. Shows where Vail wants people to go using an Epic pass and the target market in the northeast.

In case someone missed the news, in addition to Telluride, there are a few days at several other "partner" resorts included as perks for Epic passes for 2018-19. The press releases all emphasize that these resorts have long term commitments to the Epic pass.

Hakuba and Telluride switched from the MCP. Crested Butte, Okemo, and Sunapee are operated by the same company and were part of the former MAX Pass.

Resorts of the Canadian Rockies Inc. (RCR) owns six ski resorts across Canada: Nakiska Ski Area in Alberta; Fernie Alpine Resort, Kimberley Alpine Resort and Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in British Columbia and Mont-Sainte Anne and Stoneham in Quebec.

Given all the new areas available to us on the Ikon Pass, we actually downgraded to the Keystone / A-Basin pass for $349. When you add in our Ikon pass for $599, we will have a whole lot of great options for next season for under $1000 each. Let's hope for good snow and good health.

As the 2018-19 season begins in earnest, some eyes are on the Vail Resorts stock price. After the latest earnings report in early Dec, enough people sold off shares to drop the price a lot. The number of Epic passes sold is expected to be almost 1 million, up around 200,000 from the previous season. That includes 100,000 of the $99 military passes, which is enough to impact the revenue total for pass sales. The increase in total pass revenue is what most investors care about.

". . .
The market apparently did not like the decline in pass revenue, with shares of Vail Resorts falling more than $50 a share — more than 18 percent — within hours of the earnings announcement, marking one of the biggest one-day sell-offs since the company went public 22 years ago.

Vail Resorts’ chief Rob Katz on Friday told investors that he expected to sell 925,000 Epic Passes for the 2018-19 ski season, which includes about 100,000 deeply discounted $99 military passes. The company reported 750,000 Epic Passes sold last season.

Take out the sales to new military-pass buyers, and the company said Epic Pass sales increased 8 percent in units and 10 percent in revenue compared to the same period last season. This year the Epic Pass is competing against Alterra Mountain Co.’s new Ikon Pass.

Last December Katz reported season pass sales were up 14 percent in units and 20 percent in dollars for the 2017-18 season over the previous season. In December 2016, he reported pass sales had climbed 16 percent in units and 20 percent in dollars over the previous season.

Epic Pass sales for 2016-17 and 2017-18 set records for Vail Resorts. So the 10 percent annual growth in Epic Pass sales revenue for 2018-19 marks Vail Resorts’ largest year-over-year decline in pass sale revenue growth since the pass debuted a decade ago.

Still good revenue growth #s even if the growth rate has slipped a little, and especially in today's market, are there other factors impacting the investors? Change in key leaders, worries about the balance sheet or over extending with all these acquisitions?
