I have been skiing my Speed Magics for about a month now and I have to tell you that I love this ski. I have skied most of the women's skis on the market this year--and I agree---many of them are great skis---but the Speed Magic rocks.
Elan's Wave technology allows for torsional stiffness with a softer flex. So, I have a very high performance ski that flexes easily---it has a 68mm waist and I thought I would only use it for carving, but I love the ski so much I use it most of the time---today I tore through 5 inches of fresh powder and later, through 5 inches of cut up powder and the ski was so stable under me that I forgot about the waist.
These skis will carve so great---I have angles that I never thought I would have!! But, most of all, they are really stable through everything that I have tried so far. I am skiing a 152 and I really like short skis---I can keep up with the boys in these with no problem.(I am 5'3" and 155lbs.)
There is another ski--The Wave Magic which has the same type of ski performance, but it is a little softer and the tail is a little smaller so that it will release easier.
I bought the Fire Magics thinking that I would use them for teaching, but I have been amazed at their performance too---they are very forgiving, so you almost forget to worry about anything when they are on your feet. I have used them off groomed and really like the float that they have with the 76mm waist. They really turn easily---everything is so smooth and easy with these skis. I bought a 160--mostly because they were out of 152, but the skis are so easy to ski that I think the length is less important.
If you want a damp and forgiving all moutain ski, then the Fire Magic is the ticket. I like my skis to be quiet and stable under me---I am not a racer, just someone who likes to move around the mountain. These skis take me there very well indeed.
