Elan or Rossignol

Brie

Diva in Training
Hello!
Been 3 weeks in Alps, pretty fast on well-prepared blue and red runs. Not so well doing on hard snow yet. :ski2:
I'd appreciate your help - due to sales would like to buy my first skis. What's still available - Elan Black Magic 158cm or Rossignol Attraxion I 154cm. I'm myself 1,73m, bit over 70kg. Last time tried out Rossis Passion II 162, found them too long for me. The Volkl Supersport S2 156cm was much easier to handle, however maybe not very stable, especially in hard snow.
Would one of above mentioned be ok for me?
Cheers

First for our american diva's, Brie is 5'8 and 155 lb.
So Brie, I've skied both the Black magic and the Attraxion I. I don't think the two are equal at all, but still I would go for the longer Elan. I think that you will outgrow the Rossi in no time.

I agree with Jilly. The Attraxion I is not likely to keep up with you after a bit. I demoed the Attraxion III's a few days ago and it seemed like an intermediate ski. I'm not sure of its true classification, but even the III was not too much ski for a beginner or low level intermediate (IMO). I started out on the Passion III's and they were perfect for me to learn on...they just wound up being too short for me when I progressed. I have not tried the Elan's but I have heard great things!
One ski might feel too long in a length that is just right in another ski even if it's the same manufacturer! For your height and weight the length is "technically" correct. But, ski length is partly personal preference and then all of the other variables such as ability, height, weight, terrain etc. Let us know what you decide and how you like them : )

Jilly, thanks for the right weight units  And both of you for the advices -I have to decided to buy the Elan skis (if they still have them). I'm still thinking about the length - if there are 152 and 158, which one's better?... I've got little fear about controlling 158, as those 162 where indeed too long, however the other ones might be too short...

We can't really say for sure...it comes down to preference there. You will likely want the longer ski as you advance, but then again maybe you'd be just fine w/ the shorter one. Solely judging by weight I would say 158, if you are more comfortable with a shorter ski then by all means go for it. Whatever gives you more confidence on the slopes will help you progress faster. If you are at all aggressive or plan on picking up some speed on the groomers the 158 would probably suit you much better. A few cm in ski length is not going to make much difference. For example one companies 158 might be another's 154, they all measure their skis differently.

Bravo on opting for the Elan- I've demoed a couple different Elans and loved them. And I, too, would recommend the 158 cm.

Well, the Black Magic beauties 158cm now are mine! Unfortunately, till the next winter I'll be only able to look at them, but also that makes me happy
Thanks, ladies, for the support!
