Elan My Spice?

I really need help picking out some intermediate skis. I can ski all the intermediate slopes and many of the advanced stuff, but I'm much more comfortable on the intermediate runs. I want to buy some new skis and really like the description/look of the Elan My Spice skis, but I want to make sure they'll work for me (and I can't find anywhere that demos them).
I ski at Lake Tahoe -- I'm 5'8", 125 pounds ... any suggestions? I have the Rossignol Soft line of boots (see I'm more into comfort than performance in my boots).

Thanks -- Diane

I have not been on the My Spice, so I'm hoping that elangirl will weigh in on this one.
From the reviews I've seen and your description, I think you'll be happy with the "my spice". You may need to kick it up a notch when you get a bit more aggressive, but that ski seems to be a ski of choice by intermediate skiers.

any suggestion on size? 160's ?

Thanks for your reply .. one more thing -- do you have any suggestions on the size of ski I should get (for my height and weight noted in the first posting). I normally rent 160's.

Also, I just came acorss from Rossignol Axium Skis at a great price (used for one season) for $200 -- I can buy the My Spice new for $339. Any thoughts?

Thanks -- Diane

Ugh, here's where personal preference comes into play

If I were you I'd still go for the 160. For me the shorter skis lend to a shorter turning radius in most cases, and that can be a bit more demanding while also not giving you the kick you may like out of the 160.

As for the Rossi's. Don't bother(personal opinion on my part) I've demoed several rossis and found them uninspiring and quited dead.
I think you'll like the elan much more.

Just so you know, I do realize that my statement above is very bold, and some people like rossi's but I just have to tell you what I think.

Volklgirl also posts here, and when we compared reviews, neither of us got inspiration from the rossi's.

I have to agree with SnowHot. I'm 5'-1-1/2", and my current skis are 156. This seem long to some people, but I think they perform well for me at that length.

And I second her opinion about Rossi's. I had a pair a number of years ago, and was somewhat less than thrilled. Of course, things may be entirely different now. I hope so.

Yes, I have to jump in here and say that I am not much of a Rossi fan either---I have skied the B2 and B3 and I just don't get excited by them--they feel stiff and unresponsive to me.

The Axium was never much of a ski--I still see them around, but I think that you could do better with the newer technology. The My Spice is an intermediate ski---I think the White Perla is a better intermediate ski and I like the profile better. 160 is a good size for your height and weight---I also like the look of the My Spice too--and I am sure that you will enjoy either ski. Comfort is important and there are some new boots which will give you better performance and be as comfortable as the soft boot---for instance, the new Tecnicas are easy to get in and out of and will give much more performance. My daughter bought a Pair of Tecnica Vento and I think they were about $269. She only skis 10 days per year and also wanted a comfortable boot.

As a Rossi person, I would agree and stay away from the Axium. It's the low end of the line. My Spice should be a better ski for where you are skiing. As for the Rossi soft's - Don't go there either. I felt like I was skiing in high heels. Try the regular line, they aren't the hard to get into anymore. I've left all my info at the condo, so I don't remember the names.
