Seems pretty grim to me. Nowhere, including Alaska, is showing any areas with cooler than average temps. The amount of precipitation is what's really critical, but last year, blower powder rarely fell in Utah. What little snow we got was denser and wetter because it was so much warmer. We got a good fair bit of early and late season rain so the base did not build and left early except at the highest alititude resorts like Alta and Snowbird. Looks like a potential repeat and maybe worse. We are so dry now, what little rain we get doesn't soak in, it just runs off.
I am cautiously assuming that while the general warming trend is here to stay, the day to day forecasts are harder to predict, and will panic only by December 20th. I told myself that after three bad winters in a five year period, I may have to reconsider how I survive financially on an already unpredictable income. Hoping this is not that third year. Certainly enjoying the wetter summer in the Tetons. Chanterelles are popping. This has only happened twice before in my less than accurate accounting of monsoonal weather.

I'm watching the reports from South America with great amazement and envy. I hope that the Sierras and the Rockies fare as well this winter. I think that elevation will be really important and I hope we don't get any of the dreaded r**n (truly a 4 letter word). This provides strong motivation when my knee rebels. Though my surgeon "doesn't want me to ski" I am truly "skibum4ever" and hope to ski until it becomes free at age 80 (80!) I've been chasing free skiing since it was 65. Then 70, 75, now 80. It truly can't go any higher!
@skibum4ever I believe it can and likely will go higher as we bio-hack and condition our way to longer health spans. Free skiing at 85 - 90 - 95! Woo hoo!

Oh Vicki I truly hope not. I'm not sure if I'll be skiing next season and certainly no longer expect to be skiing at 80. But I can't imagine skiing at 85 or 90. I know that Warren Miller used to show such skiers, and my friend Bill skis occasionally at over 80, but that's definitely the exception. I don't think Bill has ever been injured or had any surgeries, which is remarkable at his advanced age.
I wonder how many Divas are over 80 and still skiing. Might be a good topic for a poll.
My good friend just turned 84 and she can out ski most people I know. We skied for a week in Crested Butte with her friend from Rhode Island (same age) and they are both really good, consistent skiers and think nothing of skiing the steeps of CB. However, a dismal snow year so no t - bars......

I am hoping that the outlook for the Southwest is on target, because my DH decided that this is the year to head back to two of our favorite resorts based on this prediction. TELLURIDE and TAOS. Plus an early trip to WOLF CREEK. Should be great to return, and looking forward to the trips.
