Alright, so y'all know that I have a pair of Head Sweet Fat Thangs winging there way to me as we speak. This is only the second pair of skis I've ever bought myself and prior to that it was either rentals or Dad bought them and dealt with bindings. My current pair have system bindings so I didn't have to make this decision.

I need to purchase bindings for these and am a little lost on what I should purchase. I'd love to have the Marker Dukes but that's just not in the financial cards for me right now. In addition, I'm wondering about mount location and thinking going 1-2 cm back would be good but I'd like your take on it. These will be my powder skis and used almost exclusively for powder skiing and won't be used for coaching skis (if for no other reason than the longer skis make dealing with the kiddos more challenging). So, what do I look for? Any recommendations for specific bindings that won't cost me an arm and a leg?

I'm a big Look fan. Have you ever skied a Look binding? PX-12 jib probably would work well - would need a wide brake, what's the width on the skis? Worth considering, anyway. I know there are a lot of Marker fans here. I had them for years. Just starting using Looks almost exclusively the last 8 years or so, and they've never let me down, absolutely solid performance.

Am sure others will chime in soon. I might stand alone in this recommendation??
 
Mine came with bindings. You want me to check which kind?

Also, your buddy at Christy Sports mounted them for me. Don't you think he'd have good advice for that?
 
The width is 87 underfoot.

Rusty might have good advice, I just don't get up to Flatirons very often any more. Please check what you have (I thought they had demo binding?).

I haven't skied a Look in recent memory and I think racing I mostly skied Marker but that was a LOOOONG time ago.

No. These ones are not demo. My Lottas are.
These are brand new and came with the skis.

Yeah....it looks to me like they mounted mine back a little bit from the other ski bindings when you compare.

I really trust Christy Sports and Colorado Ski and Golf! They have NEVER steered me wrong! :D (plus...they gave me an UNBELIEVABLE DEAL! :yahoo:)
 
The ABS on them is really cool and some girls I spoke to in the store said they have never experienced a cooler binding....as far as the ABS and release.

I don't really pay much attention to bindings, but people were talking about these!

Really? Even for almost exclusive pow use? IDK. My Auras are mounted 3/8" (? cm) back and they still are fine in everything I've had them in so far.

As to bindings:
If weight and elasticity are priorities, consider the Look/Rossi bindings or Salomon.
If best release even with contaminted/worn boot soles is a priority, consider Marker. (personally, I'm a Marker girl and have never had a prerelease).
If adjustability fore and aft is something you might like, see if the Atomic bindings still offer this feature, then you can center mount and adjust for conditions as needed.

Most important considerations: your current DIN should be smack-dab in the middle of the binding's DIN range and you'll need brakes wide enough to span your skis.

Its a matter of ski style. Most women don't like the normal powder mount point.
I mounted my Bros 2 mm(yes MM) forward, and my Blue house skis center.
If you rear mount them, then you probably will not enjoy them unless you get tons of powder. Hopefully someone with more experience than I have will chime in.

Volklgirl thanks for your thoughts, I've got an email into my head coach on the Rossis that SH posted about to see what he can get them for me at (he's a Rossi rep).
 
Since the Sweet Fat is a women's ski, isn't it marked ahead already?

Robyn, are any of your other skis mounted forward? If not, I'd go with center or a little back (keep in mind, I typically HATE forward mounts).
 
Interesting thread. I would think a women's ski would have it's mounting point ahead a bit anyway. This has got me thinking about how to mount my Auras (which are on their way as I type:yahoo: , although I'm not sure why I'm anxious since there is no more skiing here:Cry: )

I'd mount mine at the traditional mounting point or maybe ahead just a tad (less than 1cm)???:noidea:

But I have till next season to figure it out.

BTW, Robyn, your new skis are pretty cool! Enjoy them in that CO snow!
