Dynastar Exclusive Legends: 06 vs 08?

My first post!

I have a friend who is considering never-been-used 06 Dynastar Exclusive Legends vs. demo 08 model of same. Opinions?

I updated all my gear this year after tearing my ACL last season. :yardsale: Figure the old equip has BAD mojo. LOVE my Dynastar Exclusive Legends and my friend's been demo-ing based on my recommendations and loves them too. Found "new" 06 model for CHEAP so she's wondering if there's been enough improvment to merit the add'l expense of 08 demos. My first year on Dynastar so I don't have product experience to counsel her. Thx for input!

Hi MeredithCO, welcome! Glad you found us, glad you're doing okay after your ACL. Ouch, that's a biggie!!

I have the 06 Legends, and I love them! I really haven't demo'd anything newer in that model, and I don't THINK there has been much change in the ski construction of that model. ??? It's pretty time-tested and very popular. A lot of people say they could be better on ice, but I haven't had much trouble out here on the "ice coast." So I think they'd be great in CO!

They are a pretty relaxed, mellow ski, on the softer side. If you're looking to "hard charge it," Legends probably aren't your ski. But if you just want to go ski and not set any land speed records, they're great, and the 06 waist width is, I think 75mm. They probably wouldn't be a very good deep powder choice (not that I've had the opportunity here in more than about 10"), but for powder-light, I think they're just fine  .

Maybe someone here can give you more insight on the newer Legend. New/old stock can be SUCH good deals, hard to resist for those of us on a budget (like me).

Just read your post again, duh, was tired last night - you already have the 06's, as do I, and your question addressed whether there had been any significant changes in the 08 -- to which I'll answer probably not. This has been a great ski for Dynastar, and from what reviews I have read, only the cosmetics are different. If anything, maybe the waist width is slightly wider?? Not enough to make a huge difference. I'd say go for the cost-effectiveness, but then, I'm not very vain about the age of my equipment. Something out of date by a couple of years makes it less theft-worthy anyway.

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback on the 06s. I actually have the 08s and have been talking them up to my friend who found a pair of unused 06s. She reported this morning, though, that she found 07s at a shop in Denver for about $200! I think she's going to get those.

Certainly welcome any additional feedback. Thanks, gang!

$200!! What a deal!! I'm not sure what's up with Dynastar and why they have so much leftover stock----the Legend was their first foray into women's specific HP, and I talked it up to quite a few who wound up demo'ing and buying. The women's line has expanded considerably since the first Legend, but it's just not a "hot" US ski. ?? DH and I have been huge fans for 20+ years, no matter what we try or buy, we always wind up back with Dynastars - who knows, maybe it's our skiing style, body types or whatever. I'm currently mounting up my 4th pair (#3 will be for sale), got the predecessor to the Contact 10, new/old stock, tried DH's, had a blast, forsaking women's specific for this time, it was a cruising blast, stable at speed. I will have 4 pairs of Dynas, with bindings, that cost me a total of less than what one pair of Volkls cost MSRP.

What ski is #3, Exclusive Legend or something else in the Exclusive line?

Exclusive 10, 158, with Look Nova Exclusive bindings. Absolutely knock-your-socks-off gorgeous skis, probably the prettiest I've ever had. Metallic blue, and in the sun, wow. Got them after my super-crash in late November, thinking that maybe I was skiing the 10 too long at 165. I enjoy them but can break their "speed limit." They want to/need to/must turn (as do the 165's). Wonderful, light ski. I can hold them between my thumb and one finger while carrying. (wow) Kind of hate to part with them but have decided that 165 is just a better length for me for my usual cruising speed. Interested??

Right on! And, yeah, I don't get why Dynas aren't more popular. With Jeannie Thoren now working for Dynastar/Lange, I'm sure they'll get more US play.

Now, who's DH?

Told her about the forum yesterday after I registered. I hope she'll get on here! I'll keep working on her and let her know that the Divas are awaiting the review of the 07 Legends.

DH is short for "dear husband." There's actually a "glossary" of typically used shortcuts (i.e., FWIW, for what it's worth) on this site - and of course, now I don't know where.....but it's in the intro stuff.

Dynastars sure aren't very big in the east. Lots of K2's, Volkl's, Fischer is the racing standard around here. Trouble Maker is the one big Dynastar seller. DH (there I go again  and I together have so many pairs of Dynastars that our local ski shop got a jig for mounting Look bindings (which are paired with Dynastar and the logical choice)! We've kept them busy.
