Dumb question re: bindings...

What size brake do I need to get for a ski with an 80mm waist?

I thought a binding with a 80 brake would be fine, DH seems to think I need bigger.

You'll need something slightly wider so that it will clear the sides.

you can bend the brakes to make them work, but you need a brake more like 90 to be right.

Was just wondering the same thing with what I had mounted - ski shop just mounted some for me. According to them, if brakes are within a couple of cm of waist width, they can be made to fit (bend, I guess?), but anything more than that requires a wider brake.

Guess I'll eventually find out if the brakes work well??

I'd say 80 is fine for an 80mm waist, but then, I don't have any qualms about bending brakes out as needed. It also probably depends on the brake manufacturer - both in the sense that they probably measure their width differently, and then some are easier to bend than others.

id say 80mm is fine. There is a little wiggle room and they can be bent. On my old skis I had a 90mm brake for a 92 mm waisted ski

Thanks, ladies. This just gives me another reason to get the Rossi bindings that I like, despite the fact that they are more expensive than some others. :eyebrows:

They have an 85 brake.
