Does your Dad ski?

Father's Day is June 17. So who has a Dad who skis?

My Dad is the one who introduced me to skiing way back in 1968. So for that (and TONS of other things  ), I owe him big time.

Now he's 84 and lives in Florida. He doesn't ski anymore -- bad arthritis and no proximity to skiing -- but he does swim half a mile three or four times a week (without stopping!). He's healthy, active, and above all, happy.

I only hope I have his genes.

My Dad is 82 and proudly tells the story of how I first skiied when I was 3 months old. Apparently he wrapped me up and put me in a basket and placed the basket on some skis and moved along a bit. That would have been January 1960! I did all of my childhood skiing with him and remember heating up cans of Cambell's chicken soup in the lodge with a heating element that was plugged into a socket and then placed in the can. Boy, do these stories make me seem old! Anyway, he's in good health but doesn't ski anymore, and is amused by my obsession with the sport!

Nope, and to be honest, even trying to imagine my father skiing at any point in his life is hilariously difficult. I'll leave his generation be, but I'm not letting my generation in my family be skier free (aside from me). I'll trick at least one of my brothers into trying it at least once.

No, my Dad didn't. But that's because he had no access to snow. He (and I) grew up in the subtropics. I'm sure he would have skied quite well had he been growing up in the colder part of the earth.

My Dad was quite a sport's man in his younger days. He "plays every kind of ball that's round"! ;) And he supported me to be active in sport in a culture that looks down on any physical activity for girls. In the process of encouraging me to participate in sport against the prejudice of society, he also tought me to be who I want to be regardless of what others may say. Thanks to my Dad, I had majored in a traditionally male profession. As a result, I can compete in the mostly male dominated upper tier of the job market. I owe him a lot for being who I am.

Sadly, he fell victim to his environment and stopped all sports activity when people of his age retreats to the couch. So his health is much worse for his age compare to many of your Dads who remain active.

My stepfather took me skiing for the first time when I was 16. He's 83 this year and still going strong, I don't know that they will do another overseas trip, but he will still ski here in Australia given the chance. He rocks!

My dad doesn't ski. My husband introduced me to skiing when we were dating, and I've since gotten most of my family on skis, except for my mom and dad.

My family is really close, and we have a lot of other common interests.
With mom its scrabble
With Dad its hunting, heavy equipment operating, and this past winter he took up golf so we can suck at golf together.
Funny thing is, I took to the "language" of golf right away but can't imagine my dad cussing.

Our family all started skiing at the same time when I was 5. Long time ago. Dad didn't ski much after I went to University in the 70's. He did try it again after my Mom died, but he felt he was too old to start again. He loves the fact that I ski and teach skiing. Now that he's 80 he finds alot of things beyond walking a trial, but he trying to stay active. Its keeps his diabetes in check. He talks about coming up to the condo at Tremblant to see the area. Maybe this coming season.

He used to, but a severely sprained ankle coupled with a boot-top fracture put an end to it several years ago. I don't think he can even bend that ankle enough to get ski boots on anymore. :(

He sure does! And he is a hang gliding pilot too! Not to mention, a sailor, and a sudoku puzzle junkie. :D I ski with my dad every year, and he's a good skier two! Happy Father's Day Pop!

Yes, my dad skis. He was the one who taught me how to ski and now is one of my best ski buddies. He is an incredible skier, I hope I look half as good as he does skiing  I used to admire his powder skills when I was a little kid, he always made it look so effortless.

He is turning 60 this year and we are planning a big ski trip to Canada to celebrate!

Yes. My Dad skis! He taught me everything I needed to know on the slopes....and in life! I owe my passion for the mountains to my Dad!

Yes, my father skis. He loves to ski. He is a good skier and has always made time for skiing. During the winter we would ski two days every week. He is very enthusiastic about skiing.

He has always skied. Now, however, nearing 80, he is having knee problems. He thought his last ski trip, a few months ago, might be his last. However, now he is talking about next year! Yay! He is a skier to the core.

My dad used to ski. My mom got him interested and he loved it so much he became an instructor. After 3-4 heart attacks (I losts count) 2 bypass surgerys and 3 angioplastis he just is not in the shape to try to ski again any time soon. Instead he bought a sail boat and guilted us into being part of the standard crew. Besides, I don't think his ego could handle trying to prove he can still out ski an 8yr old AGAIN, it was one thing at 36 but at 63+ that is another story.

My Dad did not ski. Mom claims she did at Mt Snow in the 50s -- I bet she really sat by the fire!

Never skied with either parent, they just dropped us off at the mountain every day after school, starting when I was 5. We skied every day from 3-6PM and then mom would pick us up to come home and have dinner. Can you imagine many parents doing that today!
